Rule Machine user-defined subcategories

It would be nice if Rule Machine had collapsible user-definable subcategories to help organize a large number of rules. Example subcategories:

  • Alerts
  • Timed Rules
  • Switch LED rules
  • General Lighting Rules
  • Seasonal Rules
  • Motion Sensor Rules
  • Contact Sensor Rules
  • Temperature Rules
  • etc.

I have over a 100 rules to date and not near done. A little help with organization would be much appreciated!

As a kludge, and certainly not an elegant solution, but for now you could start the rule name with your category and the alpha sort would give you that effect.

Yeah, already been doing "genus-species" naming, but the list is really long, and I'd like to be able to collapse any genus not being reviewed.

Grouping/nesting of rules has been a feature request for some time. It doesn't seem to be getting much love unfortunately - I'm not sure why. I prepend rules with 'Lights - ', 'Notification - ', 'Curtains - ' etc depending on the rule content. The long list is still annoying to navigate. The easiest way is just to type in the search box what you're looking for to instantly filter your list; I'd missed that feature but find it very handy after someone mentioned it on here a week or two ago.

Check out an app I wrote called Rule Machine Manager. It should help with organization.

Thank you! I didn't know about that App, but now it's installed and running well!
