I am using Track Dimmer on a couple of WiZ Lights with a Virtual Dimmer. I tried changing the dimmer on the virtual switch and the 2 light bulbs did not follow. I tried several fixes, creating a new rule, rebooting hub and rebuilding database and it was still not working. I went back to Platform Version 2.3.8.140 and it is now working. Is there a bug with this in Version 2.3.9?
Are you able to take a screenshot of what it is that isnāt working?
Thank you. Took me some time to find the track dimmer functionality. I didnāt even know it existed Anyway, I found it and gave it a go on two hubs, both running 2.3.9.166. I have used a virtual dimmer as the trigger and then set the rule to track that dimmer for two other dimmers. I used virtual dimmers on one hub and Phillips Hue bulbs on the other to see if there was a difference between virtual dimmers and real ones. There wasnāt. What I found was:
- Every test I ran correctly changed the dim level of the two dimmers to track the dim level of the virtual dimmer that was used as the trigger for the rule.
- The tracking does not work for changes to the switch state of the tracked dimmer. That is, if the tracked dimmer is on at 65% and the virtual dimmer is turned off by just changing the switch state to off (leaving dim level at 65%), the other dimmers will not mirror that change. The tracking is only for dim level.
Are you using built-in drivers for the wiz lights or community provided ones?
If/when you attempt the upgrade again, can you try replacing your wiz lights in the rule with virtual dimmers to see if the issue occurs with virtual dimmers as well?
Thank you. I am using the built-in drivers for the wiz lights. I also have basic rules to turn the lights on and off when the virtual switch is switched on and off. The lights are also controlled by a Philips Hue indoor motion sensor. I do have an addition wiz light with the similar rules to dim and turn on and off the same way. This light is not controlled by a motion sensor. I was having the same issue with the Track Dimmer. I didn't think many users were using the Track Dimmer but I did find out about it searching the community. After using these lights for a few months, I will probably stay away from WiFi lights in the future since I generally have to make sure they get connected to WiFi and the WiZ app after a power outage and reboot the HE hub after the WiFi connection is established. I will upgrade the firmware again and do the test you requested. I may not get back to you until tomorrow.
I was able to test your request now. I added a virtual dimmer device and added to the apps. I also added a Zigbee smart dimmer light to the app as well. Both the virtual dimmer and the Zigbee light tracked with the Virtual dimmer but the WiZ lights did not track. My assumption would be that the rule is working correctly but there is an issue in the WiZ Integrations with the new 2.3.9 release.
Can you try making a group for the two lights instead? Install the āGroups and scenesā built-in app and then create a group consisting of your Wiz lights. You can then control the group to control the lights.
Also, have a look in this thread: Rule Machine script no longer changes bulb color after latest update
Looks like potentially a similar issue with another Wiz light
Group did not work, light dim level did not change. I don't know if this helps, but here is the log for one of the lights (the other light has the same information).
Those errors seem to be very similar to what they are getting in that other thread I linked to above. There is a suggestion there that it is fixed in a current beta version and could be fixed in the next version released. Hopefully that is a hotfix to 2.3.9 rather than having to wait for 2.4.0
Yes, I saw that in the other thread. I also saw that thread was getting a very similar error so I'm hoping since the beta fixed that error that it will fix mine as well. Thank you very much for your help on this, I will update post when the next update is released.
Yes, there will be a hotfix for 2.3.9.
Updated to 2.3.9.174 today. Track Dim with WiZ lights is still not working and I am still getting the same error GroovyRuntimeException: Cannot read write-only property: level on line 141 (method setLevel)
I see where it went wrong... Next 2.3.9 build should have a fix.
Works great! Thanks.
