Rule machine indicator

Suggestion: Instead of just Rule-2.5, how about Rule 2.5, Triggered Rule 2.5, Trigger 2.5, etc

Something has happened to your rule names! Were they this way before the update?

Don't think that's what he's asking, Bruce. That screenshot looks like the column on the right of the page (not the name column).

Think he wants to know if it's a Trigger Rule or not, just by looking at this column.

Oh, that column is the name of the child app, which in this case is Rule-2.5. That's not something that changes with type of rule, nor changeable. With multiple versions of some of the built-in apps, and with multiple child apps, this is how you tell which type of child app you have.

For example, Groups and Scenes has Group-2.0 children and Scene children, Motion Lighting Apps has Motion Lighting and Mode Lighting.

Notice in this screenshot how a Custom Command has a name "Command: configure()". That name is constructed from the custom command itself. Notice how "Back Hall Lights in the Morning" has [false] appended to the name --> indicating it's a Rule, while "B WC Fan Timer" has no such appendage --> indicating it's not a Rule (not very helpful). So there's a UI challenge about how one would display the distinction between the four types of rules, beyond the fact that now a Rule is distinguished.

Ok, I figured if I didn’t ask, the answer was no...

It's not that the answer is no, it's just a challenge to see how to do what you're suggesting. I think it's a very valid idea. I stare at my list of 50 some rules and wonder the same thing, which ones are Rules, etc.

It's good to know if you have a RM 2.5 rule or an earlier version, and important to be able to quickly define your custom commands vs rules, but I'm not able to picture how it would be useful or is useful to identify a trigger vs rule.

What would be VERY helpful would be to be able to organize rules by custom categories, rather than having to create naming schemes as some have done.

It would be possible to do something like this:

This Cool Rule {R}
Perfect Trigger {T}
Best Triggered Rule {TR}
Re-usable Action {A}

I mean for Rule Machine to append that automatically to each name.

??

Does that get rid of the true and false? If so, for me status is better than type, I can add the type to the name.

I like the idea of categories. While I have a naming convention sometimes it would be nice to be able to sort them out. As of this morning I am at 60 rules but with a few new devices on their way I am sure I can get that number up.

That would work.

Now if you really want to get fancy, you add a status column to the app page, where apps can put a 20 character status :slight_smile:

I love feature creep!

This is actually a better idea, IMO. I will consult with the UI gods...

I'm at 50, down from 65. Spent several minutes yesterday looking for a missing piece to my laundry minder set of rules.

#HaAddictProblems

I just finished renaming 3 rules that had gone to null after the update. Trying to figure out what I had named them before so I don't loose them is not easy with only one cup of coffee downed.

Dang. Sorry about that. Something I missed...

As a more general statement - any added organization functionality would be welcome.

Perhaps have RM as a section on the "Main Menu" side bar providing more screen space for fields.

There are opportunities in Devices as well. Perhaps add configurable tabs for device types. Or at least just get sort order to stick.

Seems like my RM Status is not accurate at time

Today is Saturday and my Weekday rule is true

Am I missing something?

Your conditions evaluate as true. The restriction will stop the actions from occurring but don't stop the evaluation from occurring.

Try refreshing the apps page, and see if it changes. It should be saying Restricted. But the restriction has nothing to do with rule truth.
