Rule Machine Broken on New Hub Sadness

Yes, I get the message " App type with namespace: hubitat and name: Rule-5.1 has parent type that does not match current app" just like a lot of other people have reported. I didn't see any clear resolution to this issue. New C-7 hub, freshly installed, updated, rebooted. So disappointed to encounter a bug like this on a brand new device.

Since your hub is new and you have nothing to lose, I'd just try a soft reset:

I also tried restoring/soft reset. Removing/Installing. Currently running version: 2.4.3.177 ### No updates available. I guess Rule Machine doesn't work -- or is incompatible with something standard?

Looking at past posts, this problem has been around for at least 3 years. The threads keep getting closed without any clear resolution. Just a lot of "did you try rebooting" suggestions.

Don't restore. Just do a soft reset.

If that doesn't help, I'd suggest a warranty support ticket on the website, or PM @support_team with your hub ID and reference this thread so someone can take a look.

Ahhh, that fixed it. THANKS! Important clarification. I did the soft reset, and skipped all the offered "find devices" and such setup. Just did one thing: added Rule Machine and it worked. Pretty extreme fix -- needing to wipe the device to bare silicon. I now have the joy of starting over and can watch as I add things to see what device/app breaks Rule Machine, if that ever happens again. Fortunately (?) I didn't get very far configuring things when I encountered this breakage, so not much work lost.

Speaking candidly, I've tested the waters of Home Automation every decade or so for the last 50+ years. Each time I do, I find that systems seem too fragile to use for anything important. I thought that maybe this time, in 2026, it would be different.

In any case, thanks for the tip.

Glad that worked! There's probably way to recover without going that far, but I suggested a soft reset only because the hub sounded new and like you wouldn't have much set up yet, and it's pretty easy to do.

You will not run into this problem by adding devices. If you are curious about the history, there was a change made to Rule Machine that created "new" Rule Machine and split off "legacy" Rule Machine (which you won't find on your hub anymoresince it's new anymore). Your hub probably started off on an old platform version, before the new one existed, and had something odd happen during the update -- why the soft reset should help since it resets your database. I believe Support was able to assist with the cases where nothing else happened, though I haven't seen this in a while and don't remember much else at this point.

By the way, I was under the impression that a soft reset wouldn't wipe all the Z-wave inclusions, but I now see no Z-wave devices listed. Do I now have the pleasure of pressing the inclusion buttons on all these awkwardly located or barely accessible devices?

A soft reset won't erase the devices in Settings > Z-Wave Details. (If that happened, you went too far -- did you do a full reset instead?) However, it does erase your device list on the hub (the radio has its own Z-Wave database as part of how the protocol works; the hub platform keeps its own device list for any kind of device). If there's a "Discover" button in Z-Wave Details, that should create a new Hubitat device. You may need to wake battery devices -- but still not need to re-include them -- for that to succeed.

(My assumption was again based on the statement about the hub being new, in which case you'd have nothing there to loose. Typically, the suggestion would be to restore your database after the reset if you do. in your case, I think that would bring us back to the above problem, so I wouldn't suggest that here, though pinging Support might help if you think that would be easier all things considered.)
