I have 2 doors with contact sensors that I have on the basic rules app. It's set up to turn on the garage light when either open and turn off after 5 minutes. I want to add a motion sensor to turn off the light when motion is active the light stays on and turns off when motion stops. Bellow is what I tried and nothing happened.
When you say nothing happens, what exactly did happen that you expected to trigger this rule, and what state were the lights in? Perhaps a screenshot of the logs would help
I opened the door and walked buy the motion sensor. I will keep playing with it if this app will work just not sure if it will.
What did you expect to happen when you opened the door and walked past the sensor? And have you looked at the logs?
Where I'm heading with this is were the lights already on? Otherwise, you may want to check the individual devices are working as expected, I e. When you walk past the motion sensor does it show as active in HE, similarly for the contact sensor and turning on the light.
The logs will then help with seeing if this all comes together in the rule or there is something else wrong.
You may want to look at the illuminance sensor at some point, it's showing a null reading

I have a basic rule that the garage light turns on when a contact sensor opens stays on for 5 minutes and turns off. what I would like to do is have the light go off 2 minutes after motion stops. I got caught on the dark side of the garage lol.
So when you say nothing happened, do you mean the motion sensor did not have the effect you expected? Also, do you still have the basic rule running / active?
I really think you need to look at the logging to work out what is happening
