Let me start by saying that Room Lighting is by far my favorite app. It's super well organized, which makes it a pleasure to use.
I have 2 cases where I'd like a light to switchoff when i enter a room. In one case I'd like it to turn it back on after i leave. In the other case I'd like the light to return to it's previous color when i leave.
Case 1:
If i change a light to activate as OFF (instead of ON as normal), then i would expect it to deactivate to ON. That is, the Off checkbox has no effect but i think it should (otherwise don't show it).
Case 2:
I tried the option 'Restore lights to the state they were in'. However all lights were restored. Again the Off checkbox was ignored. Either the app should only restore the state of lights checked in the Off column, or that column should not be displayed if it's not used.
I'm open to any suggestions on how to do the above in the Room Lighting app.
For this case, you want to go into Alternative Turning Off Methods and select "Use preset settings for Turn Off" and set it up in the Lighting Period page. You would set it up so that the switch turns back on while everything else turns off (or their desired behavior).
My guess is that the preset settings would be helpful for case 2, but we would need more information. What type of bulbs, how are they connected, and can you give an example of the color changes?
For case 2 it won't though, because i don't know which color to reset it to (because it's not a fixed color).
Here's the scenario: i have colored strip accent lights (their color changes); when i come into a room I'd like them to change to white so i can see better (and the other 2 lights come on); then when i leave the area return to whatever color the strip was set to prior (and the 2 standard light go off).
Ideally i only want the strip lights to return to their prior state.
You might have to use Rule Machine instead of Room Lighting, as RM has the option to save a color before it is changed. I donβt believe RL has such an option.
You can capture (save) a device's state, change its state, and then restore its saved state.
So your LED lights are blue, you walk in the room and their state is captured. Then the LED changes to white so you can see, and when you leave the room the LED strip (and any other devices you captured) can be restored to their saved state (In this example the LED strip returns to blue).
Actually i found a good solution: i put that color strip in it's own RL rule so i can set Use Preset Settings For Turn Off just for it.
Thanks guys for your input.
