Room lighting noob question

Hello, I guess this is a stupid mistake. But I'm trying to familiarize myself with the Room lighting app by doing a simple configuration. That is to say, turning on an outlet at a specific time and turning it off at another time a little later.

I am able to manually turn on and off the outlet from the ruler but with the schedule it just doesn't happen...

I also tried this without success.

I'm not sure I'd recommend Room Lighting for this simple case (turning something on or off at a specific time can be done a lot more easily with other apps if that's all you want; I might suggest Basic Rule).

But, to answer your specific question on Room Lighting, the problem with your first instance is likely that you don't have any "Means to Activate" specified. The time periods you define don't do anything on their own; they just define what happens when the Room Lighting instance is "activated" during that time period. You still need some way to actually activate it.

Your second screenshot appears to show this, since you've added in activation at a specific time. That looks like it should turn them on at 8:57 PM and turn them off at 8:55 PM (these times seem a bit odd--being on nearly an entire 24 hours--so I assume it might be something you did now for testing). If that's not working, I'd enable debug logging and see what Logs say. It looks like it should work, though it's possible there is something missing that I'm not seeing...

Indeed this very basic rule was only for the purpose of learning how this app work.

Before going any further, I wanted to understand why a simple rule like this doesn't work... I'll activate the debugger to see...

In your first example with the 2 periods, your setup in the screenshot looks fine to me, but as @bertabcd1234 said, that part just defines the schedule -- it doesn't actually set anything on/off.

We'd need to see what your main RL setup page looks like for that first example-- I suspect what may be missing is this command?
