Not looking for help on this, but sharing my experience in case it helps others.
I have a second generation ring range extender in a protected outdoor outlet. I was getting an LWR RSSI signal strength of 5-6dB, which is not great.
When I turned it "upside down", the LWR RSSI signal strength went to 18 dB, directly connected.
The image below shows what I mean by "upside down". In my case, I plugged it into the upper outlet, not the lower outlet.
My suspicion is that the optimal orientation will vary based on your specific situation, but wanted to share this in case it helps others.
