Ring Contact Sensor 5AT3S2

Hi all. I purchased Ring Contact Sensors Gen 2 and can't add them to hubitat. I searched the forums and tried this suggestion, but it did not work:

Needs factory reset
Remove the cover from the device.
Press and hold the pinhole reset button using a paperclip or the included pinhole tool. ...
Continue holding down the pinhole reset button until the LED light turns red.
Put the back cover back on the device.

After that is done. Remove battery for 10 seconds
Initiate z-wave pairing on the hubitat
insert battery into sensor
wait for pairing

I've also tried holding down the button on the front for three seconds, tapping it fast three times, and tapping the reset button three times as well, no dice.

Any ideas on what to do? Thanks in advance for the help.

Hubitat version 2.4.4.135 - C7

This is the only contact sensor I use with my production hub..

If you are looking to do a classic inclusion (Add Device UI)..

These are the instructions from the Z-Wave certification for the device..

After powering on the device, press and hold the button on the front of the device for ~3 seconds. Release the button and the device will enter Classic inclusion mode which implements both classic inclusion with a Node Information Frame, and Network Wide Inclusion. During Classic Inclusion mode, the green LED will blink three times followed by a brief pause, repeatedly. When Classic inclusion times-out, the device will blink alternating red and green a few times.

You can also use SmartStart inclusion using the app to scan the QR code.. Which might be better here because newer ring devices support LongRange ..

Thanks!

I tried the classic inclusion mode, and I couldn't get it to add.
So, then I added it via SmartStart by scanning the QR Code on the sensor, but now it just says pending. The light on the front is still blinking three times repeatedly.

Strange.. That seems to say that it's still in classic inclusion mode.. So you should probably do the factory reset again so it's in SmartStart mode..

ok, so i reset it and immediately added it to SmartStart but it still says pending. and the light is still blinking three times.

This is what i see in Smart Start Manager:

Ok.. At this point your Z-Wave chip might be unhappy.. Try a hub shutdown and then pull the power.. Then power it back up and try again..

Also you aren't trying to classic include while it's trying to SmartStart right?

ok, i'll try that now. I'm not trying to classic include while trying it in SmartStart,

Where did you get it from? The reason I ask is because if it is NIB from Amazon it could be a problem. I have had a few now just completely fail and could not be added back at all after the battery died. Is a new one with LR?

Yes, I bought them off amazon. These are the ones I purchased: Amazon.com: Ring Alarm Contact Sensor 2-Pack - 2nd Gen | Instant Window & Door Alerts | Approximately 3-Year Battery Life | Slim Design | Easy Installation | Base Station Required : Tools & Home Improvement

Is there something else I should have gotten?

Bingo! Reboot did the trick! I've read some forums where people are using the Generic Z-wave Driver. This was detected correctly as a Ring Alarm Contact Sensor G2. Should I use a different driver?

No those are the right thing.

Thanks for confirming.

The detected driver is correct..

Perfect. Thanks. Have you run into issues where the contact does not register if it is open or closed? This happened yesterday and a reboot of the hub it fixed it. Just not sure if this is something to worry about. Also, do you every update the firmware on these devices? If so, how do you do it?

I have not.. And it would be pretty obvious because of my door chime that I have configured..

You would need the firmware file from the manufacturer.. As far as I know they don’t provide it

Sounds good. Thanks for the replies and the help in getting these sensors working!

So, for some reason, the contact is now suck on open even though it's closed. I've rebooted the hubitat and pulled the batteries out of the sensor, waited 10 seconds and put them back in. Same issue. Any ideas?

I've decided to return the sensor that's giving me all this trouble. I have another one that worked fine. If this issue continues, i'll reach back out. Thanks.
