Hi all, I've got around 12 rgbw controllers that I want to turn on and off simultaneously from a dashboard tile and also want to change the colours all at the same time, mirror me wouldn't change the colours last time I tried, not sure after the update, what do you guys use? Which app do you think I'd be better suited to use for this? Or should I use a virtual tile ? Many thanks
what is the device, and what driver are you using with it?
Have you tried simply using the Hubitat "Groups and Scenes" App to create a single 'group device' of all 12 physical devices? And, since they are Zigbee, they might even support the Zigbee Group Messaging feature of the Hubitat Groups and Scenes App. This will help to eliminate the 'popcorn effect' which is often seen when trying to change multiple devices at once.
When you create a "Group", you will find a new corresponding Group Device in your list of Hubitat devices. This can be added to a dashboard to control all of the devices as if they were one device.
I did try this several times and honestly its hit and miss, I'll press the tile an either not all of them come on all the time or not all go off, so I was looking for something a little more robust, I don't even mind them coming in a popcorn fashion, I just want them all to come on an off when I press the tile lol, I'm sure I'm getting something basic wrong !
Please show a screen shot of the Hubitat Group of these RGBW lights. Often the issue becomes obvious once we can see what you're trying to do.
Also, do you ever change these lights independently of one another? In other words, can the Hubitat Group device get out of synch with the lights do to individual control of the? Or are they always controlled as a single group of 12 RGBW lights?
when debuging issues of this type it's best to make sure the device/driver combination is correctly working before trying to control things via automations.
I've not tested these controllers, so I have no idea if they will work correctly with a driver specifically designed for bulbs, we also don't know what sort of mesh you have setup.
So we need to start with one of these controllers, then run through the commands in the driver page, see what works, and what doesn't work.
What we're trying to find out is if all the commands actually control the device as intended, and if the results of those commands are reflected in the current states, if they aren't then the device isn't working correctly with the driver and it certainly isn't going to work properly in any automations.
Assuming all the commands work, then add all of the devices to a group, not a scene, but a group in the groups and scenes app, be sure to enable zigbee messaging, then head over to the group device that was created and run through the same commands you did before for the individual controller.
If the commands work on all the devices, then they should work from the dashboard tile.
If the commands work on some, but not all the devices, then you have a mesh issue, if the commands don't work on any of the controllers, then the controllers don't respond to group zigbee commands...
I don't currently have a group, I've tried group them several times in the past and they have been hit an miss so I've been controlling them individually, which is fine unless I want to leave in a hurry as it takes a while to turn them all back off, so they work fine individually, it's gonna attempt a group again, but I just thought I'd ask before I did to see if there was a super simple mistake
I'm super new to this, I've only been learning around a year, they work individually as you'd expect, it's just when I try group them, and it's intermittent, strangely it's the closer ones that seem to be intermittent, Bobby has had a look in my hub, he said there were no driver /user issues conflicts, they're on a generic bulb driver because there isn't a strip controller driver in the generic section, honestly my area is pretty open an I have a lot of things in my mesh, I have very few issues, there have probably been 8 hub updates since I last tried to group them, so it may well have resolved itself, I like the aurora a one range as it's inexpensive and readily available but I have taken a change with 30+ items that done have actual personalised drivers, know there a couple of people with a one on HE now, but as for drivers I really didn't have any choice but to choose the generic colour bulb, and it honestly works perfectly from an outsiders point of view, I'll have to try group them again and see if I get a different result, I did choose group last time and not scene
Individually they work as intended, as a group they intermittently work as intended, it's very strange really , it's just the turning on and off whilst part of a group, it's not a massive deal I just wanted to streamline the dashboard they're in, I'll give it another go, many thanks
