Can there be a way to ping my mobile through the app to let me know when there is an update? I have got to the point now where I can leave my hub without logging into it but would like to know when an update comes online?

You can set up notifications by categories in the forum.
This sends me an email when an update is available.
Preferences -> notifications -> categories

That's pretty close to what i am looking for, does that not just notify you of all updates in those topics?
It does but the only thing that goes in that category is updates. I've not had anything else pop up apart from updates. So far........
