Replacing thermostat -can I pause present Apps &Rules

I have a Go control Z Wave Thermostat presently and would like to replace it with a Honeywell Z wave thermostat. The Go Control utilizes the Hubitat thermostat app along with a few rules I set up. Can I pause these apps and rules, then do a Z-Wave exclusion on the Go Control thermostat, include the Honeywell thermostat, and chose the Honeywell thermostat to run in these apps and rules in place of the GO Control?

A clearer question is - do I have to remove the apps and rules that are presently connected to the Go Control Thermostat before its exclusion? I'd like to use them for the new Honeywell thermostat.

Tony

Nope, you definitely don’t need to remove the rules.

This is a good use case for “swap apps device” in the hub settings menu. Pair the new thermostat with your hub first, and after the swap, exclude the old thermostat.

One last question. You state to pair the new thermostat first, but I need the old Go control to still be attached to the wiring to do an exclusion. If I remove the Go control without excluding it first, I won't be able to exclude it.
Many thanks for your help, I'm getting up there in age and this forum is a God Sent!

Edit: do the exclude while powering the old one with batteries as @rlithgow1 suggests.

It might take a bit of wiring trickery, but you should be able to power both thermostats from your existing wiring. Should probably just need to connect R and C to get it powered up. But don't take my word for it...I might be mistaken and I'd hate for you to damage something.

Or, after the swap, you could power up your old thermostat from another 24VAC transformer...a doorbell transformer, for example.

The Go Control does have battery access even though I only connected it with the "C" wire for power. Maybe I can just replace the batteries once removed and that will allow me to exclude it.
Thanks for your reply

You can exclude it on battery fine. That said don't include it with batteries in otherwise it will not repeat. Put batteries in after.

If you have a 12V power supply, such as from an old, no longer used plug-in power supply, you can use that to power the thermostat while doing the exchange. Connect the positive lead to RH and the negative to C. I have a Radio Thermostat CT101 that I have powered this way. I was going to swap it out for the Zen thermostat, but when I switched drivers, it started being reliable again, so I never did that. You reminded me that I need to exclude it and remove it from any settings so I can store it away again in case I should need it in the future.

Fantastic! I'll install the Honeywell thermostat, Use the "Swap Apps" in settings to swap the rules and apps then install the batteries in the Go Control thermostat and exclude it.
Many Thanks to all!

@tony3286

1 Make virtual thermostat
2 Use Device swap
3 Put batteries in go control. Remove wires.
4 Exclude go control
5: Install new thermostat
6: Pair with hubitat (without batteries so it acts as a repeater)
7 Device swap new thermostat with virtual thermostat
8 Delete Virtual thermostat

Now THATS ingenuity! Many Thanks!

Virtual Thermostat and rlithrgow1 directions worked PERFECTLY! What a time saver.
Many Thanks
