Hi, I currently have a C7 but already order the C8. I want to split the devices based on location between the two hubs but Im wondering once I complete the migration if I can use the remove device or I have to excluded.
As long as the device is still working the remove device attempts to do the exclusion.
I do not think this will not work, if you migrate the radios to the new hub you will need to reset the radios on the old hub or they are both going to be on the same ID for the mesh (zigbee or zwave).
Honestly the range and performance is so much better on the C-8 I would just move them all to the new hub. Unless you have a remote building on the property, then it might make sense to split it up.
If you want to keep the old hub going you could always move any problematic bulbs or sensors back to it after the migration, or even put wifi / cloud integrations on there.
I admit I agree with the design that splits the total devices logically by... area. I began with Upstairs and Downstairs, but now I have added "Front" in which I took some devices that started life Upstairs or down but were more to the front of my home.
When I upgrade, I can do just a third of my house at a time, and no one in the other 2/3 of the house notices. Same idea but a little longer is I damage a hub... which I think is more likely around me than an actual hub failure... only 1/3 of my house is dead while I swap my development hub in to replace the dead one.
However, your idea of how to accomplish this is a no-go. You're going to have to manually exclude devices from one hub to the other. Yes, you can use the migration feature to move 100% from the C-7 to a C8, and then move some set of them back, manually, after resetting the C-7 Z-Radios.
I really appreciate your response. Thanks
