I'm almost finished with the transition from SmartThings to Hubitat! Of about 40 devices, only 2 are still left directly connected to ST. Both those are related to our (a bit improvised) alarm system, and that's kind of the problem.
Hubitat Safety Monitor (HSM) matches Smart Home Monitor (SHM) in many aspects, and I have already moved detection for leaks and smoke over. However, when it comes to the alarm and the connected siren I'm not sure what to do.
With SHM, we can see the current status of our alarm, disable and enable it right from the app. We can handle false alarms swiftly (once a open window managed to accidentally trigger a sensor etc), before our neighbors hates us for all time. I really like this feature, both for peace of mind and to manually disable/enable the alarm if the automatic functions fail - which they sometimes do, especially the presence based ones.
With HSM, I will have to rely on notifications to tell me/us what's going on. If a notification fails, I really can't be sure if the alarm is active or inactive without opening the door. Or, standing close to it, getting Wifi, connecting to the hub and look that way.
I realize this will probably be a non-issue with the future mobile app, but I'm still very curious how the rest of you use HSM today. I'm thinking about solutions like a bright red light in the hallway, combined with delay for the alarm itself. Red light = alarm still active = slam the damn button! As we live in a apartment with no obvious way to "look inside" without opening the door, it's hard to give a real heads up earlier than that.
Another solutions is maybe a separate Dashboard with cloud link, easily accessible from our phones. Right now HSM status isn't available there, but I could probably tie it 100 % to different modes."Out with alarm" for example.
Of course, all of this is for edge cases. Presence based deactivation will probably work 9 out of 10 times, but experience tells me it will sometimes fail. I'm looking for a nice "backup", that minimizes accidental siren triggers (and hearing loss..).
So, how have the rest of you configured your HSM solutions?
