Reliability of cheap Tuya valves

You hadn’t shared anything but a photo that presumably came from a product listing page.

In the simple photo you took after you received it, it’s obvious those parts are made of some kind of metal (or metal plated on the outside at least).

Dude I dunno what we’re even talking about at this point.

I don’t know what the device is made of because I can’t see it for myself and you never shared any specs for it.

I can only form opinions based off of whatever information you choose to share here, which hasn’t been much.

Am I a pessimist when it comes to inexpensive IoT devices purchased directly from China, especially when there are potentially catastrophic consequences of failure (like a valve on a water main)?

I sure am.

If you don’t like what I have to say, then please ignore me.

This digression is off topic and unrelated to the rest of this thread.

Someone flagged one of your posts. It wasn’t me.

So I’m probably not the only one that thinks you’re wasting everyone’s time.

@moderators please consider moving the last several posts between me and @ilkeraktuna to the timeout room or debate chamber.

I don't know who is disturbed but I didn't write anything bad.

In any case , I am stating again: I didn't ask anybody's opinion on quality of this device. I just asked if it would work with any driver on Hubitat.
Then I got no answers , and then I got the device and decided to provide information that "it works"
I thought I was being helpful to others.
But some people are disturbed.
Then I will not try to be helpful here anymore.

No one deleted your message. It was flagged as inappropriate and I agreed. The message is there but hidden. If you have a personal message for a user, please send them a private message, otherwise, please keep the thread about a custom app or driver.

why do you think my message is "inappropriate" ?
I didn't call anyone "dude" , I just answered a "dude" who provided wrong information judging a device from a photo.
my message is not wrong or inappropriate.

So can we move all the OT posts to the timeout room yet? :slightly_smiling_face:

ETA: I see I spoke too soon. Posts moved :upside_down_face:.

Is the term “dude” considered disrespectful where you live?

Serious question.

Presumably. Especially if one were of the female persuasion?

I call women that I know dude too :slightly_smiling_face:.

yes. (serious answer)

I am not your friend and I don't like your attitude.
Again I am stating: I didn't ask your opinion about quality of that device. And you provided wrong information on it judging by a photo.
So , your post is not inappropriate but mine ?
Why ?

FWIW, when you post in a public forum, you don't control who responds or what they say ..... however, you always have the choice to "ignore" someone whose opinion you find irksome on forums that use Discourse.

Thank you for clarifying that. I genuinely didn’t mean any disrespect while using that term.

As for the rest of your post.

I don’t care if you didn’t ask my opinion. Sometimes I will share my opinion for no reason other than that’s what I want to do.

The internet is both a great place, and a nightmare, because of that freedom.

I didn’t “provide information.” I said in the photo you posted that parts of the device look like they’re made of plastic. It wasn’t a statement of fact. It was a statement of my perception.

As I mentioned already.

ETA: and I’m not even referring to the “mute” feature in discourse. I mean that if you don’t care for someone’s opinion on something, you can simply direct your attention elsewhere. Just plain old ignoring someone with the power of the mind :exploding_head:.

I am not sure if that thread is the correct place about discussing a device's quality.
And seemingly I am the only one in the forum that has this device and asks if it would work on Hubitat.
My question is very relevant to the thread. But the answer is not.
And the answer is wrong. @marktheknife does not have the device and says it is plastic.

  1. it is not plastic
  2. even if it was plastic, the question is not about what it is made of.
    irrelevant and wrong information

And I should add I’m sorry for causing offense with my language.

I think you’re still missing the point.

You could have simply replied to me and explained why you think it’s not plastic.

You have the device, obviously you are in a better position than me to confirm.

Instead you pushed my buttons by lecturing me about making judgements over simple photos, or something to that affect.

And now here we are because you still can’t let it go.

well , this:

I would not be surprised if it failed prematurely.

this doesn't seem like a naive statement to me.

You missed my point in its entirety. But that's ok.

well I did that.
I did even better that. Got a real photo for you showing it is not plastic.
Then you insisted saying "metal plated on the outside"

are you forgetting what you wrote ? also what I wrote ?
