Hi everyone,
I’m excited to share my complete Advanced 2.0 Application Suite for Hubitat, which is now live on GitHub. This suite represents a major evolution, building significantly upon the original versions of the applications I’ve shared with the community in the past.
These applications have been in development over the last couple of months, crafted with the assistance of AI agents to expand upon my foundational designs.
Core Design Philosophy
-
Transparent Human-Readable Interfaces: Every application features a clear, human-readable interface designed to let users know exactly what is happening and why each decision is being made in real time.
-
Cohesive Cross-Communication: Most of the applications feature built-in cross-communication, allowing them to talk to one another and keep your entire smart home ecosystem completely in sync.
-
A Unified Ecosystem: The goal was to build a suite where everything works together to act as a cohesive, well-oiled machine. While that may be an ambitious vision, I have experienced great success during the deployment and testing of these versions in my own home.
Feel free to download, test, and use them however you see fit. Over the coming days and weeks, I will be posting detailed write-ups for each individual application directly in this thread to break down their features and capabilities.
I warmly invite you to give them a try, and I look forward to your feedback!

Advanced Climate Manager 2.0
Advanced Climate Manager 2.0: Complete Feature List
System Architecture & Core Functionality
- Modular BMS Engine: Functions as a complete Building Management System, overriding standard thermostat logic to run the house based on calculated environmental averages.
- Mode-Based Operating Profiles: Establishes independent baseline targets for Home, Away, and Good Night modes, bypassing standard programming.
- Dynamic Setpoint Alignment: Mathematically shifts physical thermostat setpoints continuously to force the HVAC to run based on the home's true average temperature.
- Master Disconnect Switch: Supports a virtual override switch to instantly disable the app and return manual control to the physical thermostat.
- Live Diagnostic Dashboard: Generates an integrated HTML status dashboard showing calculated averages, dynamic setpoint adjustments, active delays, cycle run times, and live comfort/efficiency scores.
Zone Control & Dynamic Occupancy
- Multi-Zone Averaging: Averages up to 5 distinct temperature zones to calculate the true thermal state of the house.
- Dynamic Occupancy Weighting: Integrates motion sensors. If a room has no motion for a configured timeout (e.g., 60 mins), it is mathematically dropped from the home's average temperature.
- Night Lock Overrides: Virtual switches can instantly lock specific zones into the average permanently during 'Good Night' modes, ensuring bedrooms aren't dropped when occupants fall asleep.
- Entertainment Overrides: Virtual switches can lock specific zones into the average permanently when entertaining, ignoring motion timeout rules.
Energy Efficiency & Hardware Protection
- Stage 1: Hysteresis Deadband: Enforces a configurable "drift" before engaging the HVAC (e.g., waiting for the house to hit 71.0° before cooling to 70.5°), eliminating wasteful micro-cycles.
- Compressor Short-Cycle Protection (Min Run Time): If the HVAC starts, the engine locks the system ON for a required duration (e.g., 25 mins for summer, 15 mins for winter) to ensure the compressor oil circulates fully.
- Smart Debounce (Anti-Yo-Yo): Prevents the unit from turning right back on after a cycle completes by enforcing a configurable minimum idle time (e.g., 15 minutes) using dynamic setpoint gliding.
- Thermal Coasting: Automatically leaves the blower fan running for a configurable time (e.g., 3 mins) after the compressor shuts off to harvest remaining free cold/heat from the coils.
- Aux Heat Suppression: Tricks heat pumps out of using expensive emergency heat strips by slowly "gliding" the setpoint up 1 degree at a time, keeping the target just out of reach of the internal Aux-trigger threshold.
- App-Driven Auto Swap: The app takes over Auto mode, mathematically calculating exactly when to switch the thermostat between Heat and Cool using the true average house temp, protecting against a 3.0° hardware deadband conflict.
- Extended Arrival Cooling: Automatically executes an intense, deep-cooling pulldown cycle upon arriving home if the house was unoccupied for an extended duration (e.g., 5+ hours) to strip heat from the thermal mass (walls/furniture).
- Deep Away Setbacks: Automatically plunges targets to aggressive energy-saving levels (e.g., 82° Cool / 58° Heat) if the house remains in 'Away' mode for more than a set number of hours.
Health, Safety & Environmental Monitoring
- Fire/CO HVAC Isolation: Subscribes to smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. If triggered, instantly kills the HVAC and forces the blower fan OFF to prevent smoke circulation.
- Sick Mode (Continuous Filtration): Monitored via 3 virtual switches. If active, overrides the thermostat to run the blower fan 24/7, circulating air through the filter until the sickness passes.
- Open Window/Door Defeat: Pauses the HVAC system entirely if perimeter contact sensors are left open past a configured delay.
- Delta-T Efficiency Tracking: Measures the temperature difference between the Return and Supply air sensors to calculate true HVAC health, optionally triggering emergency shutoffs if the coil freezes.
- Psychological Auto-Regulation (Mood Sync): Syncs with the Advanced House Management app. If multiple users log a stressed, angry, or sick mood, the BMS automatically lowers the cooling setpoint by 2°F to provide immediate physical relief.
Maintenance & Alerts
- Smart Filter Wear Calculation: Accurately predicts filter life by tracking exact blower run minutes and multiplying the wear rate against live Indoor/Outdoor Air Quality (AQI) data.
- Randomized Filter Alerts: When filter life drops below a threshold, turns on a virtual alert switch for 10 minutes at a randomly generated time during the day to power reminder lights/chimes.
- HVAC Service Logging: Tracks the exact date of your last HVAC service and stores your technician's contact information directly on the dashboard.
- Automated Seasonal Reminders: Dispatches push notifications on May 1st (Summer Check/Condensate Drain) and October 1st (Winter Check/Ignitor).
Self-Healing & Failsafes
- Routine Setpoint Enforcement (Mesh Healing): Periodically wakes up to re-transmit the correct setpoints to the thermostat, ensuring no commands were dropped by a weak Z-Wave/Zigbee mesh.
- Stuck Target Deadlock: If setpoints deviate from the baseline for more than 2 hours without satisfying, the app executes a critical failsafe to release all locks and restore the base target.
- Hardware Trip Detection: If the system short-cycles too many times in a rolling window (e.g., 3 times in 60 mins), the app detects a hardware-level limit trip, disengages all automation, and alerts the user.
- Hub Reboot Lockout: Detects hub power cycles and enforces an immediate 5-minute compressor lockout, allowing physical HVAC pressures to equalize before resuming automation.
Advanced Ceiling Fan Climate Manager 2.0
Advanced Ceiling Fan Climate Manager 2.0: Complete Feature List
- Fully Autonomous Engine: Independently manages up to 8 separate rooms simultaneously, continuously evaluating real-time conditions to control multi-speed fans and smart relays.
- Mode-Based Automation Profiling: Adapts fan targets, timeouts, and behavioral logic dynamically based on Hubitat Location Modes (Home, Away, Good Night, Morning, Arrival).
- Master Disconnect Switch: Supports a virtual override switch to instantly halt all app logic and release control back to physical wall switches.
- Live Diagnostic Dashboard: Generates an integrated HTML status dashboard showing live room temperatures, active countdown timers, occupancy states, and expected vs. actual fan speeds.
Occupancy & Presence Orchestration
- Multi-Sensor Occupancy Matrix: Fuses standard motion sensors, under-mattress pressure mats, chair vibration sensors, and virtual activity switches to accurately determine room presence.
- Anti-Bounce Entry Verification: Requires a continuous stream of motion for a configured delay before activating the fan, filtering out brief hallway pass-throughs.
- Walk-Through Rejection Engine: Rapidly shuts off the fan (e.g., in 1 minute) if motion is brief. Requires a specific number of motion hits within a set window to confirm "Sustained Occupancy."
- Bedtime WT-Bypass: Allows users to configure a specific time window where Walk-Through logic is completely bypassed, ensuring fans stay on while tossing and turning in bed.
- Grouped Motion Requirement (Require ALL): Can require all motion sensors in a large room to trigger within a 10-second window before the fan activates, preventing pets from triggering the system.
- Chair Vibration Keep-Alive: Monitors accelerometers placed on office chairs or couches to extend active occupancy timers without requiring large limb movements.
- Entertainment Overrides: "Activity Switches" (e.g., Roku/TV) lock a room as Occupied, bypassing motion timeouts so the fan stays on while occupants sit still to watch a movie.
Dynamic Temperature Targeting
- Configurable Multi-Speed Thresholds: Supports 3-Speed, 5-Speed, and 6-Speed fans. Users define exact temperature deltas for each speed step (e.g., +1.5° = Medium, +3.0° = High).
- Good Night Setpoint Locks: Bypasses standard room logic when a "Good Night Switch" is active, holding a specific aggressive cooling setpoint and ignoring standard occupancy timeouts.
- Deep Sleep Synergy: Integrates with sleep trackers to artificially cap the fan's maximum speed (e.g., forced to Low) during deep sleep, preventing wind noise disturbances.
- Nighttime Metabolic Caps: Establishes a hard maximum speed limit during designated 'Night' modes to save energy, even if the room temperature calls for High speed.
- Psychological Auto-Regulation (Mood Sync): Syncs with the Advanced House Management dashboard. If multiple users log a stressed, angry, or sick mood, the app automatically drops all fan targets by 2°F to provide physical cooling relief.
Smart Lighting & Master Relays
- Decoupled Relay Logic: Manages the master power relay independently from the fan blades, ensuring smart bulbs maintain power when the fan blades are told to stop.
- Smart Lighting Scavenger: Evaluates Sunrise/Sunset, Window Shades, and Virtual Overcast switches. If an occupied room is dark, it proactively keeps the master relay ON.
- Blade Spin-Down Delays: Delays cutting the master power relay for a customizable duration (e.g., 15s) after the blades stop, preventing jerking or unknown states upon restart.
Hardware Failsafes & Resilience (RF/Bond)
- Network Breathing (Step Delays): Prevents unreliable RF transmitters (like Bond Bridge) from dropping commands by enforcing a strict delay between speed shifts (e.g., Low ➔ 60s ➔ Med ➔ 60s ➔ High).
- Fan Wiggle (Self-Healing): Every hour, the app briefly drops active fans down one speed level and bumps them right back up to force RF bridges to re-sync with physical hardware.
- Morning Mode Sweep: Automatically triggers a forced Wiggle/RF Sync 120 seconds after the house wakes up or transitions modes to ensure overnight state changes are accurately reflected.
Manual Control & Overrides
- Intelligent Manual Overrides: Instantly detects if a user manually changes a fan speed via a wall switch, logging an override and suspending automation for a configurable timeout (e.g., 2 hours).
- Button Controller Support: Supports 4-button remotes (Pushed, Held, Double-Tapped). Pressing a button executes the requested speed and logs an override. Pressing the button for the currently active speed acts as an "Auto" toggle to instantly clear the override.
Holy crap, Shane...
I went into the GitHub repository expecting a few Hubitat apps.
Came out three hours later wondering if I had accidentally downloaded the operating system for a small country.
Seriously though, this is some impressive work.
I’m going to need several cups of coffee before I attempt to understand any or all of this.
There’s definitely some serious overkill in here, but there are also some really clever ideas buried in this monster.
I’m just not sure whether I should install it or call NASA or the NSA first.
“Everything works perfectly. I wonder what I could add to screw it up even more?”
Great work!
Thanks for the kind remarks.
Advanced Smart Blind Manager 2.0
Advanced Smart Blind Manager 2.0: Complete Feature List
- Fully Autonomous Engine: Independently manages up to 12 separate rooms simultaneously, bridging time, temperature, wind, and true solar geometry to continuously automate window blind positions.
- Master Disconnect & Do Not Disturb: Supports a virtual kill-switch to instantly pause all app logic, and a "Do Not Disturb" (DND) switch that immediately closes all blinds and locks out automation.
- Live Diagnostic Dashboard: Generates an integrated HTML status dashboard showing live solar position, outdoor weather, average house temperature, active system-wide locks, and individual room statuses.
- Hardware Telemetry Health Scoring: Tracks all blind commands, opens, closes, RF retries, wiggles, and timeouts over 24 hours. Calculates a live percentage-based reliability/health score for each room to help diagnose failing motors or weak RF bridges.
- Automated Nightly Maintenance: Clears manual holds, resets thermal locks, clears daily telemetry, and dynamically recalculates Sunrise/Sunset timers at midnight.
Solar Geometry & Timing Automations
- True Solar Tracking Engine: Calculates the exact physical position of the sun (Azimuth and Elevation) locally on the hub based on your latitude/longitude.
- Directional Blind Mapping: Users can define exactly which direction a window faces using either general compass coordinates (N/E/S/W) or exact 360° Azimuths. The app cross-references this with the live sun position to determine if the sun is currently shining directly into the room.
- Astro-Clock Sync (Sunrise/Sunset): Supports full opening/closing at Sunrise and Sunset, complete with custom minute offsets (e.g., Close 30 minutes after Sunset).
- Morning Grace Period: When the blinds automatically open in the morning, the system institutes a configurable "Grace Period" (e.g., 60 minutes) where all thermal defense logic is ignored to allow natural light in before locking the house down for heat.
- Sunset Motor-Saver Deadband: Prevents the blinds from accidentally opening late in the afternoon (due to changing temperatures) just to immediately close 30 minutes later for sunset, saving motor battery life.
Thermal Defense & HVAC BMS Interlocks
- Summer Mode (Active Cooling Defense): If the average house temperature gets too hot, the system automatically closes all sun-facing blinds to block heat and assist the AC.
- Winter Mode (Solar Heat Harvesting): If the house is cold and the outdoor temperature drops below a threshold, the system automatically opens sun-facing blinds to harvest free thermal heat, closing them when the sun passes to trap the heat inside.
- Winter Deadband Ceiling: Bypasses solar heat harvesting if the house gets too warm during the winter to prevent accidentally triggering the Air Conditioner.
- Predictive Thermal Latch: If the outdoor temperature exceeds a threshold (e.g., 82°F) very early in the morning (e.g., before 1 PM), the system preemptively locks all blinds closed for the entire day to protect the thermal mass of the house before it can heat up.
- BMS Synergy (HVAC Blower Scavenging): When the system forces a sun-facing blind closed to defend against heat, it automatically sends a command to the main HVAC thermostat to run the central blower fan for 15 minutes, mixing the trapped solar heat into the rest of the house.
- Thermal Override Switch: A physical or virtual switch that instantly bypasses all thermal/environmental logic for the remainder of the day, allowing you to leave the blinds open to enjoy the view.
Weather & Exterior Overrides
- Storm Shield (Wind Lock): Links to a local weather station. If wind speeds exceed a critical threshold (e.g., 15mph), the system immediately forces all blinds open to prevent them from banging around in the wind or being damaged.
- Solar Radiation Defense: Uses an outdoor lux sensor to monitor absolute brightness. If the sun is dangerously bright (e.g., >10000 lux), the system closes sun-facing blinds to protect interior furniture, floors, and art from UV bleaching.
- Open Window/Door Defeat: Uses window contact sensors. If a window is physically open, the app is blocked from sending a "Close" command to that specific blind to prevent the motor from crashing into the window frame or screen.
Hardware Failsafes & Resilience (RF/Bond)
- State Verification & Continuous Retries: Cross-references the physical state of the blind via contact sensors against the app's target state. If the blind missed an RF command, the app will continue to retry the command every 90 seconds until it verifies the blind moved or hits the ultimate timeout limit (e.g., 15 minutes).
- Wiggle Maneuver (Self-Healing): If a blind fails to respond to standard retries, the app automatically executes a "Wiggle" (sending the opposite command first to wake up the Bond bridge or motor, followed instantly by the correct command).
- Anti-Yo-Yo Cooldowns: Enforces a configurable debounce timer (e.g., 15 minutes) after a blind moves due to environmental changes, preventing the blinds from constantly going up and down if the sun goes behind a cloud.
- Master Blind Routing: If the engine determines the entire house needs to close (e.g., Sunset or DND mode), it intercepts the individual commands and routes a single command to a "Master" shade group device to ensure perfect synchronization.
Manual Control & Overrides
- Intelligent Manual Overrides: Instantly detects if a user manually opens/closes a blind via the physical cord or app dashboard. It logs a manual override and suspends all automation for that specific room until the Mode changes, Sunrise/Sunset occurs, or the configurable timeout (e.g., 2 hours) expires.
- Button Controller Support: Supports physical remotes (Pushed, Held, Double-Tapped). Pushing the button manually toggles the blind (Open/Close) and engages a manual hold. Holding the button releases the manual hold and instantly resyncs the room to its automated state.
