Anyone game for running a BETA for cliff detection?
You peeked my interest---
Found this in the HE forums: Many older Zigbee and proprietary devices like the OSRAM Lightify switches handle battery reporting poorly or stick to 100% until the voltage drops off a cliff and the device simply goes offline. ![]()
Maybe- just maybe cliff detection would snag some of them... MAYBE
We can say they are "partially smart?"
I am not holding my breath on that one..... Again, well aware of the issue since I even found any apps that track the battery. I would be willing to test for ya though.... Although....all of my OSRAM's are at 100% right now..... so not sure when they are gonna fail ![]()
Here is a RAW link for cliff detection. I would install this as stand alone and only add batteries you have issues with. I do not have any li-ion units that i have issues with so it will be hard for me to test this.
@neerav.modi - Maybe you do. ![]()
Installed. I have over a dozen Zooz temperature/humidity sensors and a few sonoff and aqara sensors, all using LIR batteries. In the past, I pre-emptively changed batteries on a monthly schedule to ensure the critical ones never died. Trying to get away from that. Once there is enough historical data on how long a particular sensor usually lasts, I can plan to replace before the cliff. And if the cliff is sensed and notified in time, I can easily change the battery before wifey notices the room is too cold. ![]()
LOL- I have other possible plans on adding threshold adjustments per device for those that just are dead at 30/40/50% versus the 1%. That’s more complex and needs to be planned.
@neerav.modi @tray_e and anyone else running the BETA, Give me feedback as you can. I will check off and on and fine tune if needed before released into the production flow via HPM.
The cliff detection SHOULD catch most of the problematic devices with bad battery curves.
Will do, but I suspect the cliff won't happen to the first device for at least a week or two.
