There should not be any difference nor added benefit.
This driver brings the same support for the ecobee thermostats to non C8 Pro hubs.
I use the exact same process to bring my ecobee thermostat (via homebridge although one could use the Hub’s Native Homekit integration to do the same) into the Home app.
The only difference is that (while I have 2 x C8 - classic -), this resides on a C7, a hub that now connects to the Thermostat, the same way the C8 Pro does.
