I suspect most of the reviews now days are from BOTs. 50% manufacturer, 50% competitors.

The fakery is indeed getting better w/AI added into the mix. All we can do is look at the reviews across multiple sites and each make our best guess about which products we want to try. 
Unfortunately, living in the manufacturing world I see this more and more with model changes. It is frustrating, for sure.

Same...worked for a home appliance manufacturer, and the product teams were under intense pressure to cost-reduce on new generations of products.

Keep using your nest protects and simply add an Ecolink firefighter next to one. (does c02 and smoke alarm detection and 100% compatible with hubitat. It's the easiest way to integrate nest protects into hubitat. They are currently the best on the market)
