Recent Zigbee Experience

I know similar information has been shared before but I know I could have used a reminder, so I thought I would share in case anyone else out there needs to hear it.

Two days ago all 30ish of my Zigbee devices stopped working. In the last two days as I have been troubleshooting I have realized just how dependent (spoiled) we have become to them. After power cycling my C8 and non-battery devices, restoring backups, trying to pair devices again and trying everything else I could think of, I had determined the hub was bad and had a new one in my shopping cart with plans to order this morning.

Then while having my morning coffee I had another thought. The hub sits on a shelf about 6 feet off the floor. I also have a Raspberry Pi sitting on the same shelf and they have peacefully co-existed there for about a year. I know about the potential fro Zigbee/WiFi interference which is why my hub is on channel 20 and my 2.4 GHz. WiFi is on channel 1. I remembered I had dusted that shelf the same day Zigbee died, so I got my stool back out and took one more look. I had been up there several times while troubleshooting but focused in other areas. Remembering I had dusted, reminded me I may have moved things around. Even though they they had got along for months I apparently got them close enough that the Raspberry Pi was jamming the Zigbee on the hub. I simply separated them and all was restored.

Sometimes it's the simplest things that can drive you crazy. Hope sharing this experience is a useful reminder for others.

Steve

P.S. The Raspberry Pi is now in another room just in case the wife dusts next time.
