Random time rule for lights

Looking to do the following but I am not sure how.

It is sort of a vacation rule, I want to have certain lights come one at a random time overnight and shut off after so much time, but i want the start time to be randomized each night.

So say the rule is:

  1. Anytime after 12:00AM and before 4:30AM.

  2. Turn on specific lights at a random time.

  3. Keep lights on for random amount of time.

  4. Turn off lights by 5:00AM the latest.

I do not want to have tons of rules to do this, hoping to create one with variables.

Im pretty certain there is an app available that does exactly this.

Sorry I cannot remember the name of it. Try searching the forums.

There is an app, and I can't remember the name either. Search should find it.

You could also use a Delay with the Random option. Random makes the actual delay... random... within the amount of time you specify.

Found the app, works perfectly

Was the app you found the At Home Simulator?

Hi Robert, can you tell me the name of the app that you are using for this? I cannot seem to make the randomized times work in Simple Automation Rules or Rule Machine. Any help is appreciated.

Many thanks,

Jon

it was the at home simulator app.
I am not using it any longer, I can just create rules in RuleMahcine to get close to what i want using random start times.

Home simulator says at the top of the instructions.

"This is not a random lights generator. "
So it does things at the same time and in the same order every day.
