Quite some time ago, a few of us had an issue where the hub would become somewhat sluggish or unresponsive to some commands, and a simple fix was to reboot the hub every night.
After several updates, that issue has seemed to have gone away.
It seems to be back, exp with Z-Wave devices (No I have no added any Z-wave devices recently) . I have a few Zigbee motion sensors for example that turn on a few lights. The Zigbee ones seem to turn on with no issue, but the Z-Wave does not. I have also tried just turning them on and off though my dash, and they are slow and unresponsive at most times.
A simple reboot seems to fix this, so I have my hub now rebooting again at night.
Nothing really has changed, I added a few new rules, but no new apps or anything. And these rules that I added are unused most of the time (open door, light goes on etc.)
Curious how many others are experiencing this. Maybe if it's affecting a large portion it can possibly get more attention. I personally experience these weird slow down events and hopefully there is already a fix in the works.
Must reboot daily to recover
Slows down daily but doesn't lock up
Slows down occasionally
Slows down but I know why and choose not to fix it
If your problems pertain particularly to Z-Wave, it would probably be good to note if you have a C-7 hub or not, as the implementations are different between this revision and previous ones.
Personally, on C-3 through C-5 (and a C-7 but I don't really have much on it at the moment, so it's not a good test), things are mostly better than ever on 2.2.3 for me. I used to notice my busiest hub slow down a bit if it had been up for a week or so (nothing major, but automations that would turn two LAN-based [so not a mesh issue] devices on right in a row would take 0.5-1 seconds between instead of being more or less instant). I'm now trying to keep mine up for as long as possible and don't really notice anything.
I do notice minor slowdowns every hour around 44 minutes after the hour. I know some minor cleanup has been scheduled to happen hourly instead of waiting for the nightly window (or however this used to work; maybe this is new cleanup entirely). I figured that was at the top of the hour, but perhaps it's random for every hub or this is, in fact, the chosen time. Nothing major here except that I do notice it with my motion-lighting-type apps because they take an extra second or two to turn on, and I do care about that. I saw someone else comment about hourly issues like this once before, but I'm not sure if the issues were more severe. I'm planning on seeing of 2.2.4 is still like this and maybe bugging someone if so. (And I suppose I don't really know the cause, but predictably hourly suggest this to me.)
My slowdowns seem pretty much isolated to the hub it's self my zwave and zigbee times are pretty consistent with hubitat watchdog but virtual swings a lot. Anywhere from .06 to over .2 and to builds up gradually between maintenance or reboots with occasional times over 5. I'm on a C7 running .148. it doesn't lock up anymore though so that's nice. I notice it mostly when I turn on my tv and it takes a few seconds to turn on the receiver or motion lights. A couple times the alarm took a lot longer than normal to disarm when I get out of bed.
Could have a Zwave device hammering the hub. There have been a few other here with similar experiences. Email support to have them see if that is the case. I had a Qubino relay that was causing issues and @bobbyD suggested I exclude and reinclude it and issues went away.
For the past 2 hours this morning I noticed every page of my hub would take 5-20 seconds to load., apps, logs, devices... Motion, lighting and general apps all seems to be fine
Rebooted the hub and now pages are loading in 1-2 seconds
C-3, current FW
Only thing exotic is Alexa Speaks, Amazon Echo, Ring Connect, Device Watchdog, Life360 and Hubitat Pkg Mgr
I haven't generally had issues like this and have never required nightly reboots
This morning, I was having the same problems. I did not reboot my hub, Then I noticed that my light in the hallway was going CRAZY! I relized that it was a DELAY from my motion sensor, and the lights were going on and off as a delay from that execution of rules.
Also, this morning, oddly I set off my HSM. When i hit the cancel all rules, the ZigBee lights went off no isuse, the Z-Wave lights that blink and such, seemed to have an issue.
This whole thing is getting on my nerves. Not much has changed in the last few days.
I did replace an Inovelli switch (also updated its firmware) but that was a week or so ago.
I also have had a computer keeping the logs open, so I closed that window, perhaps that was it. I don't know. Its getting frustrating.
No.mesh issues as I've gone back through the logs when the skowdowns occur . I'm guessing some kind of maintenance but not sure. Both zigbee and zwave will slow sown at times. Not locking up. And normally OK. Zigbee avg .18 secs zwave .38
But I've seen a spike as high at 5 -15 secs every day or two.
I'm not at all impressed we have a new C7 hub and no specific identification of the slowdowns or the fix(unless I missed it). We get a "new CEO" and then we get a new product, and the slowdowns persist. I for one feel there is still some underlying core issue and many live in rebootville.
Even with rebootville and my test devices right under my hub, I get watchdog data like this: 09-26 22:23 - 0.679 ZigB
09-26 22:22 - 0.691 ZigB
09-26 22:21 - 0.688 ZigB
09-26 22:19 - 0.614 ZigB
09-26 19:24 - 0.531 ZigB
09-26 19:23 - 0.636 ZigB
09-26 19:22 - 0.646 ZigB
09-26 19:21 - 0.675 ZigB
09-26 19:19 - 0.654 ZigB
09-26 16:24 - 0.594 ZigB
09-26 16:23 - 0.683 ZigB
09-26 16:22 - 0.573 ZigB
09-26 16:21 - 0.678 ZigB
09-26 16:19 - 0.654 ZigB
09-26 13:19 - 0.396 ZigB
09-26 10:24 - 0.609 ZigB
09-26 10:23 - 0.684 ZigB
That doesnt seem to be a slowdown.. It may not be as fast as you like but that is about the times i see with zwave devices with more than one hop.. with one hop direct to hub i see about .3 - .4
zigbee is slightly faster. A slowdown is when that jumps to 5 secs or something.
But that is zigbee, directly under the hub, about 2 foot from device to hub. And today is a good day. Seeing .8 before it's time to reboot. Yesterday zigbee went offline again. I don't log tickets or complain much any longer. I just accept this is the way things are.
I'm really hoping things can be stabilized
Also have you compared what channel the zigbee is vs your 2.4 ghz wifi they can step on each other. Also is the hub close to the wifi router or another zigbee hub. Have you tried changing channels?
You should also enable a virtual switch hub watchdog device to compare times. It may let you discriminate whether it is global hub slowdown or just zigbee issues.
My happiness about migrating from ST is starting to fade.
About half the time I issue a command to google assistant, it times out after 10 sec complaining "hubitat is not available", then a few seconds later the command goes through anyway.
From time to time accessing the hub would take 10 to 15 seconds. This seems to be completely random. Most of the time it is fast and responsive but when I end up staring at blank page for 15 second waiting to get a response from my C7 is getting on my nerve.
Thanks for trying to help, I've been through this ad nauseum. Wifi=1, Zigbee=25-can't get any less interference than that. The logs for the virtual devices are genrally low, unless the hub decides to crash or lockup.
Before you ask about repeaters, 5(five) xbees, 2 tradfri USB repeaters, 4 zigbee plugs and 2 iharyadi environment sensors/repeaters, 1 aqara relay, all stuffed into about 2k sq. foot home. The funny thing is , outside of all the cloud outages, zigbee ran fine on ST.
I'm not giving up yet, but as each day goes by I get more frustrated. I can hold on for a couple more months, and at that time we'll see...
