Yes I think i'll go that route, but being as i'm very much a "software/soft hands" tinkerer your above suggesting of the rain capture device lost me at soldering haha.
I'll have a look and see if there's any consumer available devices on the market, I am considering getting the Netatmo weather station with the rain capture unit but together that comes to £200 which seems a bit overkill for this routine, maybe I need to think about what other information that device would give me and where I can implement that to convince myself to buy it haha
