Hi,
I just wanted to double check something as I can't find the answer on the forums.
Ive got a C8 hub and about 30 zigbee devices, some powered, some not. Pretty typical mix of switches, bulbs and motion sensors.
Recently a Sonoff switch used to control some outside lights didn't reconnect after a power cut and it's been a real faff getting it back on the network. I even moved the hub closer to the sonoff. ( I couldn't move the sonoff was its wired into junction box outside).
My question is - when you are reconnecting a device that is physically a long way from the hub, will it reconnect via other zigbee nodes? I don't really have to physically move the hub and the sonoff close together right?
It should connect via other node, but you can always pair it near the hub (after resetting the device and initiating pairing mode it will slot into it's old place)
Thanks for the reply. I thought this was the answer. Sometimes, as was the case with my Sonoff mini switch, moving the device close to the hub is an absolute pain, so I"m glad its not necessary for a simply reconnect after a drop out.
What about when you are introducing a new device for the first time - does that HAVE to be near the hub, or could that pair and connect to a different device acting as a node? For example, if I install another switch further up the garden, could I wire it in its final location first, then pair it - even though its too far from the hub for direct communication and will definitely be using a nearby powered device? OR - would I have to wire it up inside, near the hub, get it connected then rewire it in its final location and allow it to find its friends on the network?
thanks again
New devices should pair through routed nodes as well. If you do have problems, it's can't hurt to try to pair next to it either.
