So with the death of Drobo as a company and my 810i becoming problematic I've decided to switch to a QNAP TS-832PXU-RP-8 unit. Does anyone know if you can run containers on these units? Just curious.
Linux server with kernel raid+LVM
I know I could do that, but trying to keep more of an appliance aspect. I know there are a few thousand ways to skin a cat...
Yup, check out the Container Station app.
Standard QNAP OS allows for a "Linux Station" and containers.
I run most of my applications in the "Linux Station" outside of the general QNAP functions.
Best case you run it in Container Station.
Worst case you create a Linux VM and run docker on there.
in short, yes, the link you provided can run containers. (this was all under the software specs of the device)
Yeah I found that later lol... Thanx
I have an older TS-451 that has worked well for years with many docker containers in Container station. You can also run Portainor. Make sure you upgrade ram to 16GB
Thank you everyone. I should have looked closer at the unit specs and I would have found my answer. Looks like I have a lot to play with over the next several weeks of migrating.
If you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out. Running homebridge, grafana, influxdb, NodeRed, and a few other things in container station. Only thing I haven’t figure out how to resolve yet is my nodered log file fills up over time and once it reaches 10g in size nodered stops working. I just kill it and delete the log file start it back up. Do it every few weeks.
This is one of the reasons I was asking... Sad drobo went tits up, but excited for a new piece of equipment lol... Drobo was really a cool piece of tech.
Love my qnap NAS … have two of them. A two bay and a 4 bay.
This one is an 8 bay rack mount, link in first post
Which drives you putting in it? I used Seagate Ironwolf NAS drives.
Oh hell, I have a mix from my drobo that I'll use and as they go bad switch them out for ssd's. I have a mix of WD purple, black,. and seagate ironwolf drives. At this stage I'm more worried about data backup than I am about performance.
I have 3 qnap nas's and 3 das's which are more similar to drobo and support hardware raid 5
