Pushover works sometimes?

Hi, running new C8 and just installed Pushover as outlined on Hubitat page:

Pushover | Hubitat Documentation

Here is the odd thing: it works about half of the time. When I test with the RunActions button in Apps and look at the Live Logs, in the Apps rule Pushover works sometimes and fails other times with the message "DeviceNotification errorapi.pushover.net: Temporary failure in name resolution". IMO, cannot be the driver if it does work sometimes, right?

Any thoughts appreciated!

Sounds like something is up with DNS.

Did you set static IP info for the hub in its network configuration page?

Have you manually configured DNS servers in your internet router’s settings page?

Thanks for the ideas, Mark. I am using Wi-Fi to connect my hub. I did see that using Hubitat with an ethernet cable to the router was the preferred method, but It was not discovering my Konnected boards so I went with Wireless. Do you think I should revisit the issues and switch to ethernet?

As @marktheknife has said, that message pretty clearly says that the Hub can't resolve "pushover.net" and send the message. We don't know how your home network is designed. I personally have complicated network with a LocalDNS that everything in my house uses first. You may have a very minimal network in which DNS is 'out there on the Internet'.

Assuming minimal, then your hub isn't able to reach your DNS because of a network or firewall issue.

One simple test is to use Settings: Network Setup: Network Test (up there on the top line) and use the Ping tool, by name. You hould see legitimate results:

Great advice. I did a Ping host and the results were odd (to me). One test fails, one test passes. Any ideas?

Thanks for you help with this!

It matches your Pushover symptoms rather perfectly. Pushover works when the hub can find Pushover.com.

I've seen speed/duplex cause this, so try adjusting:

Whatever it is, make it the other  If it helps, great, if not, put it back

Hello. I looked at the Network Setup page. The Ethernet Speed setting is just that, for Ethernet. I am using Wi-Fi for the Hubitat connectivity. Since the ping test fails about 50% of the time, it does seem like it may be a DNS issue. I have a Netgear genie C7000v2 with a basic out-of-the-box config. It's terribly frustrating; any other thoughts are greatly appreciated.

And just to confirm, you haven’t changed any default DNS settings on the hub’s and your router’s settings pages, correct?

As a test, try using a hard-wired Ethernet connection between the HE Hub and the Netgear Router. The problem could be with WiFi connectivity/stability. At least this way you'll help narrow down where the problem is.

Agreed and I did switch over to Ethernet this morning - the problem does appear to have been resolved

Thank you all for your insight and guidance here.
