Hello, I wish to return my hub within the return window. The page about returns (.../return-form/) has an error and doesn't state how to proceed when purchased directly from hubitat. Do I need to obtain an RMA? Where do I ship it? Thank you.
Just curious, what is the issue with it?
Thanks for your feedback, do you mind sharing a link to the page that has an error? We would like to have it fixed.
Regarding the returns, you can always reply to the email confirming that your order was received, or simply sending an email to orders@hubitat.com to obtain the RMA number.
Hi there, I tried to post the complete link originally but was not allowed to by forum restrictions. It also won't let me embed a photo of the page.
It states this twice for me: "If the hub was purchased from one of Hubitat resellers, please contact them directly to initiate the return according to their return policy." I thought that maybe one of those was meant to explain how to return direct sales.
I'll try to break up the link:
support.hubitat.
com/return-form/
In case it's possible to avoid return: my main reason is I'm running a lot of Tuya lights (Alexa hubs for voice) and almost every other device I have seems to be Wi-Fi, sometimes Bluetooth secondary. (Switches and power strips, TCL TVs, Tapo cams, garage door). I am renting so this works extremely well for us, I just wanted something that would still work off the router+phone control during our frequent internet outages. Maybe try to get offline voice going.
I guess my bad for not digging deeper, but I was so surprised nothing I have is supported natively. I updated the hub with a tuya workaround—I can't remember how far I got with it, but I think it mentioned needing cloud access, developer apis, etc. Erg. Either way it doesn't seem like the Hubitat solution works for me at all. Am I correct?
I've been waiting on more end device upgrades until Matter penetrates the market fully, and some until we have a house. I'm not sure I have the technical chops + motivation for the necessary workarounds. Maybe I'll try again with Hubitat at a later date, as it sounded like it was going to be more simple than home assistant, but I'd like to start with a recent-version hub at that time instead of hanging on to this one for years.
Thoughts? Thank you!
The hub is fairly powerful but unfortunately this won't be an out-of-the-box solution for what you've described.
Fair certain that many of the devices you mentioned aren't on the official compatibility list and would require 3rd party (community-created) installs. That is, if they even exist.
Good luck.

The reason for this is that Hubitat's core tenet is LOCAL control. That means everything is done on the device and not in the cloud. If something happens to the device manufacturers servers or your internet connection, all your automations are gone. In some cases the device won't work at all. Typically with 99% of wifi based devices they are cloud based. Not a good thing in terms of control nor in terms of privacy as companies like TUYA and Amazon collect lots of data about you, especially through IOT devices. Not to say there aren't wifi integrations that aren't 100% local. LIFX, Shelley, Nanoleaf are just a few. All 100% local. Of course though the primary protocols for Hubitat are Z-wave and zigbee.
As for matter, yes matter is local, but not all wifi devices can become matter. You could get the TUYA bridge which eventually will become matter capable but all those devices connected to it are still going to be wifi not matter. Matter is also in it's infancy and needs to get it's act together.
As for Bluetooth, my personal opinion is that it's not that great for home automation since it's very limited in terms of range. Again my opinion only.
Now as a last note, hubitat leaves it up to the community to build cloud based integrations (bosch, Weatherflow, etc etc etc) but Hubitat doesn't warranty those works. But the community is robust in terms of its people and their code. If you decide to stick with Hubitat, ask any question, we're all here to help.
I'll also throw out TUYA zigbee stuff is pretty good.
My thanks for this comprehensive response, I understand it better now. I didn't know most wifi devices were cloud based, as ours are almost instantly responsive and highly reliable, despite using a mediocre home 5g wireless connection. (Cloud also seems like unnecessary extra steps, aside from the away-from-home capabilities I don't really need.) Undermines what I'm trying to achieve in terms of offline local control, and also suggests Home Assistant won't be of help either. In light of this, I guess I'll keep only making necessary purchases for now, then do some careful planning when we do find a home.
Very disappointing about the Matter rollout. I've been holding upgrades at least 2 years now.
I can see the same issue as the OP at Shipping and Returns – Hubitat Support
There’s a repeat block of text re: contacting a reseller for warranty support:
And there doesn’t appear to be any info anbiht how to initiate an RMA on that page, if the hub was purchased directly.
It's now fixed, there is also a Return Policy linked to the main site: Return Policy - Hubitat
