I have 8 sengeld bulbs that lag for a couple of seconds before they light up.
It is very visible in my master bath and my kitchen lamps.
I'm my bathroom, when I close the door, it is set to light up at level 5 on two bulbs. It just takes 2 seconds after the contact switch is closed.
In my kitchen, I have 2 bulbs, one over the island and one over the sink. I also have a third Reality plug connected to the kitchen tv and a motion sensor. When the motion sensor see motion, the you can hear the plug turn on, but it still takes a couple of seconds for the bulbs to light.
Oh, I have the same problem in my laundry room. When the motion sensor flashes red, it takes a couple of seconds before the bulb lights up.
In my living room, when the motion sensor flashes, the light fires up instantly. It is a no neutral switch in the wall behind the actually switch.
Any ideas why this is happening or do I need better bulbs?
You can find lots of posts about Sengled bulbs in the community. What I have found is they need a strong mesh and way more repeaters than most other devices do, to work well in the mesh.
What I did when I had one bulb act "strange" was to add a new Sengled bulb to the network and just the bulb swap replace device and then removed the old bulb from the Hubiat, I found something strange a many releases ago (don't remember) where I was seeing what you saw or even worse one or two bulbs that were working just fine just stopped responding. Adding a bulb with a fresh configuration seemed to resolve it for me.
I know a lot of folks will say repeaters so you may want to check the Zigbee network topology to make sure the device is near a good repeater.
Oh the old bulb I removed was still usable after adding it as a new device back to the network.
I have 3 Sengled high lumen bulbs. All 3 exhibit the lag you speak of. I have 1 bulb that is consistently slower than the other 2. I've swapped there sockets to see if it was locations, gave them time to soak and nothing changed. Some others have reported this before and some say they do not experience this. I have way more repeaters than needed as they are all in use as plugs. This really has no bearing on the issue but in case you are not aware Sengled is defunct. None of this really helps other than to say I don't think there is anything you can do about it.
Based on ronv42's comment, I don't think I've ever re-paired them but it's worth a shot. It wouldn't be the first time double luck voodoo resolved an issue. I'm going to try myself.
Are all your bulbs using the same driver and will it allow you to change the transition times in the driver? If not try switching to a different driver that will allow you to switch it. I have several of the Sengled Classic Element bulbs and if using the Sengled Element Classic driver it has a very slow transition time.
I changed the driver to the Advanced Zigbee Bulb driver and changed the transition time to ASAP and they all work basically instantly.
Two things to ponder. Is the driver ramp up time greater than zero. And do they start faster if they are at 100%? Starting mine at 5% has a noticable lag like you describe. Not just Sengled bulbs do that when started at lower dim levels. I wrote in to my automation to start the bulbs at high percentages then back down to my preferred setting a fraction of a second later.
I've seen this advice before and tried it. For whatever reason my bulbs do not work well with that driver. The sengled drivers do have transition times in the driver and mine are set to ASAP. My bulb model # is E11-N14A
Not that I'm aware of. If you are referring to transition, that is the only option in the driver, no it is not. 2 of my 3 bulbs come on at 100% all the time. 1 is mode based. The bulb that my wife drops a comment on, comes on at 100% all the time. "No problem, I'll just go buy more bulbs." usually quiets her for a while.
That could explain why your bulbs don’t work well with that driver. My bulbs are a different model. I don’t remember the exact model but I know it isn’t that it has a 16 in it. Mine works great with the Advanced Zigbee Bulb driver.
Have you looked in HPM or just at some of the different drivers that are in there to see if one with a transition time might work for you? I am sure you have I just wanted to bring it up.
Last case effort you could always try one of the AI systems to either write you a new driver or if you can find a community driver that is close have it modify it to work.
Ok, @LearningHubitat , I did as you suggested and then set everything to asap and it solved the problem. Now the lights react as it should. Thank you. If I have anymore problems with them, I will try the other fix but for now, it is very good.
In light of everyone else's success. I thought I'd revisit as it was a while ago and my memory and brain often betray me. Not this time. My damn bulbs will not work with the Advanced Zigbee Bulb driver. As soon as I hit configure, the light comes on to about 5 or 10%. It is not reflected on the device page and I cannot control them from the device page. The YMMV in HA is definitively the most infuriating aspect.
