Problem Adding Tapo Matter Devices

I have a fair amount of Tapco devices and the other day I added 3 P125 plugs. Everything was fine. I plugged 1 in and used it right away and after I added the other 2 unplugged them and put them back in the box. Today I pulled one at a time and out tried to use them but to having problems re enrolling the Tapco matter plugs**.** I have a screenshot of the one that is working just fine. Did something change with the updates? I spent at least an hour trying to put them back into the hub. I never had a problem with Tapco devices.

I did default them to factory a couple times.

No information was provided on how you installed (where you got the matter code) nor what the error message was. So, How I would (have) installed a P125M previously:

Install in the Tapo phone app first. That will assure the device firmware is up to date.

Within the setting for each Device is a parameter: Matter Setup Code. Press that. That is the code to use for Hubitat Installation.

Other items:

The Hub must have access to the Lan segment where you have the device installed. Sometimes, the protections preclude the Hub from talking to the device (if not so installed).

I got the matter code from my Tapco app on my phone.

This is the one that is currently working perfectly. After I enrolled it into the app I then got the matter code and put it into the Hubitat hub

By the way I have no problem at all putting the devices into the Tapco app & updating the firmware.

For the first time this outlet did not turn on at 8:00 pm - always did before. What is going on??

The log displays that the lights turned on however the outlet never fired, it in fact never turned on.

How I installed each device is with my phone and the Tapco app. After powering up the device I enroll it into the Tapco app once it is there I go to my computer and retreive the Matter Setup Code and enter it into the Hubitat hub under of course device → matter → enter 11 digit code

First off, it is something with Hubitat (some weird state in your hub due to past activities). A lot of nuances here.

I tested install of my plug using both the hubitat phone and hubitat web (laptop) apps. The device was kept in the Tapo environment. Used the Tapo matter setup code (just like you).

Laptop

  • Installed matter plug - no issues. Tested ok.
  • Tried installing again without removing the successful install (to see what happens). Failed with message:image
  • Uninstalled device.

Phone:

  • Installed matter plug - again no issues.
  • Tried install again without removing successful install and the phone app just hung (I never saw the screen in your message)

Knowing you are likely frustrated, a few shots of your favorite relaxing drink is called for. Then, some Examination/other action preferably using the laptop (not knowing your knowledge level - so pardon me in advance). Knowing that one device is working….

  • Tapo phone App: Go to settings > Device Info on the three plugs. two checks: how many bars and wi-fi network (network should be the same for all devices). (mine currently has a single yellow bar - but works ok). If not, reinstall the two devices to the same wifi network as your working device.
  • Devices: Sort by “Type” and scroll down to the “Generic Matter Outlets”. Are there any unexpected devices here? If not, good. If so, resolve but make sure you do not delete something you are actually using. (sometime phantoms exist).
  • Hubitat itself: If on wifi, go to 2.4 GHz (that is recommended on the phone app).
  • Hubitat itself: do a reboot with Rebuild Database on Reboot after completing a local backup.
  • Your LAN - Find what segment your devices are on and make sure that they are not protected from local interactions (sometimes guest networks are set up this way to protect the local devices from your friends.) If you are on a guest network, then check the permissions in your router (try allowing everything - then restrict later).
  • Open Hubitat and open the logs on a separate page.
  • Your Router: Assure the Hub and the Matters devices are on the same segment (i.e., 192.168.50.XXX are all the same segment). (probably not important - but check anyway.)
  • Now try adding a device and capture any logs for the Matter add-on (it is usually very silent, but maybe an error message or note will appear).

I’m gonna work on everything else, but I’m going to give you some screenshots until tomorrow morning. I have time to go through each and everything you posted such as my Wi-Fi settings but here’s some screenshots. Perhaps they might be a help and shed some light.

The items that are blue in the Tapo app are the ones I cannot get to work in the Habitat hub all the rest of them worked just fine in the Habitat hub

Hall Switch Below here has a nice strong blue wi-fi signal. I thought that was the problem. - Not!

To who it may help here is how I finally was able to get the Taco devices into the Hubitat hub.

  1. First I reset the plugs and when the Green & Orange light start flashing.
  2. I added it into the Tapco app on my phone. Made sure the hardware was up to date too.
  3. Being in the same room as my router, computer and the hub. (not sure if important)
  4. I looked in the app for the Matter Setup Code and RIGHT away entered it into Hubitat software on my computer.
  5. Had no problems with it accepting the matter code. Before it would not sync at all.

Anyway that is what I did and it worked for me.
