The saga continues...
I've decided to replace the Sengled bulbs with Hue.
So far I have paired 4 hue bulbs and assigned two each to two dimmer button controllers.
I've just paired a 5th bulb. I have paired them directly, not with a Hue hub.
It shows in Devices and from there I can turn the bulb on and off
When I go to the dimmer button controller and try to attach the new bulb to the app, the new bulb does not show in the list of available devices.
I have rebooted the Hubitat. That did not change anything.
I find myself, again, at a loss to explain this strange behavior.
I would really appreciate some guidance as to why this is happening and how to fix it because I have 4 more hue's to add after this one.
What driver ("Type" on the device detail page) is the bulb using? All Hue bulbs should support dimming (i.e., at least the "Set Level" command), which is essentially what the app looks for in the device selection list.
OK, I've been nabbed again. I'd forgotten that when I paired each of the first 4 bulbs, although the pairing detected the bulb, it created a device entry with the device set to generic zigbee outlet. So, of course, It can't be linked to a dimmer button until you edit the device spec and change the type to Hue bulb.
I don't know if this is something that could/should be fixed in the driver because I assume the once the device is detected, there must be an interaction with the driver as the device entry is being created. Of course, since I don't really understand the internals, that assumption could be complete incorrect.
I would like to thank everyone who helped me with this. It's working well now.
In the midst of the melt-down I spenr some time looking. As Home Assistant and openHAB.
Compared to Hubitat I found them to be incredibly cryptic and complicated, noth to understand and use. It seems to me that the point of home automation is to make your life simpler. Hubitat does that while I believe that using either of the others would become almost a full-time activity. With openHAB you can't just add a light and control it until you have created a "semantic model" of your entire house. This is a real obstacle for a newcomer who may not yet even be sure that the thing is going to work out.
I give a big thumbs-up to Hubitat and everyone who helps out with it.
