Hey guys, (@bobbyD@mike.maxwell, @patrick)
I had a look and I couldn't find a way for me to create a poll or counter where we could see the number of people who have migrated from what platforms.
Is this something you guys could put in place ?
If a poll isn't possible I guess it could be as crude as several posts. 1 for each platform and then users simply "like" the one they've come from.
That way anyone can curious people could see how many have come over from Iris, SmartThings, Vera, Wink etc
@bobbyD
I was hoping for a more comprehensive list for the poll, along with the history, as people are now posting in the body
eg. HomeSeer, Omni (now Leviton), M1 Elk, ... and then the older ones... X10, Premise, ... and the short lived (Staples Connect, Somfy TaHoma anyone? )
At some level, these are all home grown.
There are a truckload more HA options out there, dating back 2+ decades (for COTS). It seems like more than a few players here that have used a series of them
I picked ST since it's what I was using the longest and its problems were the only reason I even looked anywhere else, but most of my automations were on Home Assistant by the time I switched to Hubitat (which I would have gone to directly had it been available yet at the time). I also briefly tried Vera Plus but found device compatibility severely lacking (barely a dozen Zigbee devices) and had a hard time figuring out complicated automations.
I was with Iris from day one. When they announced they were shutting down I switched to smartthings for all of a week. I then found HE and can't believe what I was missing.
So it seems not only has the poll got beyond my capabilities (LOL), lots of you out there have more detailed stories to tell.
That’s terrific.
I have no idea how to get this data together as I was initially only curious to see how many people had come from what platforms - not even thinking some had come from multiple platforms.
Maybe I should have said “Last platform you came from”
He he
The overwhelming majority being SmartThings is not a surprise given the similarities of the platform backend. The small Wink count is a bit of a surprise.
