Presence sensor recommendation

Hello
I have Aquara Presence Sensor but having a lot of problems with it with HE drivers and drivers downloaded from Community.
Do you have experience with somę others?

I need it for my garage automation: when no presence for 2min, close the door.

Thanks in advance

Can't help with the presence sensor, but just want to say to be careful with automatically closing doors and gates. Voice of experience.

Being in Europe, there are not many other choices for mmWave sensors other than Aqara and Tuya... I am happy with Matter over WiFi Meross MS600 - PIR and millimeter wave radar.

Which model of the Aqara sensors do you have trouble with?

Why? More details?

Here's one:

In the US, garage door openers with remote controls sold in the last few decades have built-in safety controls to prevent closing while there’s an obstruction in the way.

There’s a risk of damaging cars or even injuring and killing children and pets without built-in safety mechanisms (adults too but that’s less likely).

Another time I backed into a garage door that closed when I was in the car and didn't notice. Bent the garage door.

Another time the door came down on the car's spoiler-luckily no damage.

This is with the oem electric eye in place.

You just can get too fancy for your own good, and not forsee all scenarios, with sensors failing, crappy thought process, etc.

I do have some notification rules now, ie, the "gate has been open for a long time", but no way am I going to auto close anything anymore. Correction, I do have to say I close the garage doors at night.

@PM_Disaster

As long as your automation mechanism doesn’t disable built in safety mechanisms in your GDO - like an electric eye, or obstruction-dependent motor reversal, you’ll be fine.

What he said :slightly_smiling_face:.

Hello @kkossev
It's FP1.
I'll try to send it back to China. I'll listen to experienced colleagues with already some accidents. I'll try to avoid them not using automations.
I'll go into the alerts system.

Thanks to all!

Yes, commanding the garage door to automatically close based on the mmWave sensor 'presence' detection may be dangerous.

If you want to troubleshoot the Aqara FP1 sensor, let me know. I have two of these working 100% reliably.

I had 3 of these for 2 years now. Last month they all just died over a period of a month or so.
Lost connection and now when connected to power they just blink once and no matter what you do they do not respond.
Just my 2 cents

I use an Xbee3 programed as prescence/arrival sensors transmitting every 5-10 seconds (programable) and is wired into my vehicle with a usb adaptor to the fuse box fuse that only powers on when the vehicle is running. This way the device doesn't randomly go departed and back to present again triggering my garage door to open.
Also when leaving home and out of range or turning off the vehicle it will become departed in Hubitat and a rule will command the garage doors to close.
I also have a second Xbee3 prescence device in each vehicle that is wired to a seperate always powered on fuse in the vehicle which indicates the car is home or gone on the Hubitat dashboard.
It can also act as a safety that both must be present/departed to open or close the garage door.
