Just testing the Konnected Pro at my desk and all seems well at first, but when I unplug the Konnected Pro, the door sensor remains in the last state ("Closed" in my case) seemingly forever. If I'm going to rely on this as a DIY security system, shouldn't there be someway to monitor the connection to the Konnected Pro and have some indication that communication is lost and the sensor values should be unknown?
I asked Konnected about a heartbeat that we could monitor and they said they were working on one but didn't know when it would make it into the firmware. That would be the easiest and cleanest method if they get that done.
Until then I originally put the temperature/humidity sensors on my Konnected add-on boards and used @bptworld Device Watchdog to alert if the temperatures stop updating. However my temperature stopped updating and alerted me even though everything else was still working and I found I just had to pull one of the power leads from the temp sensor to reboot the sensor and it would report immediately a work for a long time again.
To eliminate that false alert i put a relay on the negative leads of the temp/humidity sensor so I now have a Device Watchdog child that runs an hour before the one that alerts me and that child just checks the temperature and if it hasn't updated in the last 4 hours it flips the relay which is setup to auto flip back after a second so that reboots the temperature sensor and when the alerting one runs the sensor has reported again so I don't get false alerts anymore.
Just an idea.
If you give your konnected a static iP (or DHCP reservation) you could use a number of Presence apps or PING apps to notify you if the konnected is not available.
@Terk: Sounds complicated. A heartbeat of some sort would work. SmartThings will show the last status, but also mark the device as offline, so this should be doable on the Hubitat side as well -- maybe in the driver or app code?
@jercloud: Yes, I already have a DHCP reservation set for the Konnected. For now, I will take your suggestion and just have it monitored via Ping.
Also, in case others are curious about the Konnected Pro... My Konnected Pro seems to have a difficult time booting. Konnected has a known issue with booting (Alarm Panel Pro: Known Issues : Konnected Help & Support), but the note claims it is only affecting the "2006" batch. Mine clearly says "2007," but I see the issue nonetheless. I already have a ticket submitted to Konnected.
It's good to hear that they're actually shipping product.
After all the delays I simply made my own with an Arduino mega + ethernet shield.
So I kind of lost track of this product.
I pre-ordered last Sept and I think I got the first batch, so 1 year. I didn't mind the delay because I'm so busy, I would feel bad if it sat there for months/years before I could get to it. All my doors/windows are pre-wired, but no sensors are installed, so it's a big job for me to get everything set up.
With your Arduino mega + ethernet shield solution, are you able to run the Konnected firmware on that?
Don't know, probably not. I wouldn't even if I could though, so have never really thought about it.
I pre-ordered at the same time but got tired of all the delays and gave up in May or June. Ended up going with an Envisalink 4 and can use my wireless devices too now so I guess better off in the end. It ended up being a lot cheaper. To bring in all my devices I would have needed 6 interface modules and 3 boards and that wouldn't have included the wireless stuff. Just wish they didn't have so many delays.
