Power Reporting Preference Usage

I have aeotec smart switch 6 device; there are a couple of power reporting preferences:

  • Power Reporting Thresholds
  • Power Reporting Value Threshold
  • Power Reporting % Threshold

Can someone please let me know how are these being used?
E.g.

  • Should I enable Power Reporting Thresholds to be able to capture the power consumption?
  • What happen if the power usage reaches the threshold mentioned in the Power Reporting Value Threshold? will it disconnect the power? OR just report it in the log?

I checked the Hubitat Documentation page and found no information there.

Thanks

Those thresholds determine when the device will send a power report to the Hubitat hub. Setting things too low, will result in the device using a lot of bandwidth on the Z-Wave mesh network, which can lead to an unstable/unusable Z-wave network. I am not familiar with the particular device, however I would definitely change the power reporting interval to be something more like 30 seconds, instead of 3 seconds.

From the manual for that particular Aeotec device, I found the the following which describes the three "Threshold" parameters...

For more details, see the full manual at https://aeotec.freshdesk.com/helpdesk/attachments/6102433596

In most cases, you want to pick one of those and only IF you really need power consumption reports. If you don't need to use the power consumption, turn it all off.

I find that power value threshold is the best for my needs, and I certainly don't need a regular report interval, nor do I care in most cases if power changes by a percentage. Even then, don't set things too low or too many reports as it can swamp the Zwave mesh and cause slowdowns and other issues.

Is your question related to how to configure a device or how to use power reporting data?
For the Configuration please follow @ogiewon and @neonturbo advices.

There are many different possibilities how to use power reporting data.
First, you can use power reporting data as a Triggers in your Rules.
The Rule itself is up to yours imagination.
One quick example.
When Coffee Maker is done power drops from 800W downto 0W.
This triggers an announcement "Coffee is ready".
And so on...
