What is the difference between Poll and Refresh, and why are some devices available to select for one and not the other?
It's up to each driver what it offers, and that usually depends on the device. Poll is pretty rare. It's made available for some legacy Z-Wave devices that don't do a good job reporting state changes.
In general, you shouldn't need either.
thats not really true for cloud connected devices which need to poll (maybe its a labeling issue) but that seems to be what it is called when the schedule to refresh every so often..
Yes, I was referring to physical devices paired to the hub. For LAN connected devices it means whatever the API dictates, and may be needed for proper functioning of the LAN connected 'device' or service.
But I do.
Sometimes my lock doesn't update the status when locked or unlocked physically rather than from HE. So I have a virtual button to refresh the lock status and a RM rule that is triggered by the button. Refresh is the correct action here. I know that other devices use poll instead.
I know. Just wondering, from a technical standpoint, what the difference is. Poll and refresh seem to be two terms for the same function.
