Piecewise HE Migration vs Whole Hog - Process & Possibilities?

Taking the risk of posting this w/o in-depth searching for similar topics. Somebody say so if it's been covered and we'll just stop right here.

If one had a solidly working hub of past vintage (let's go all the way back to the C5) on the MOST current software release...and really relied upon that for key functionality...and were thereby hesitant to disrupt that...but had a desire to get onboard with the latest & greatest HE hub offerings:

What tools might avail to a piecewise migration, i.e. device by device, rule by rule, use case by use case...that might allow for one to comfortably onboard a new hub into that overall environment at the lowest risk level (i.e. NOT migrating everything and having the possibility of multiple things to fix/work out/bird dog). Let's assume one kept all the radio stuff unique, e.g. Zigbee channel etc.

In other words, are all the export/import, copy & paste, possibilities going to work for one's personal work in/on the old platform...or would there be too much potential for clashes that would have otherwise been handled by a straight HE migration exercise where there's a lot more hand-holding going on to facilitate the transition?

You can do the full migration without much worry. Just make sure to unplug the C-5 before restoring to the C-8 Pro. If it doesn’t all work properly, then shut down C-8 and plug in C-5 without any harm done.

OK, but what about all those device-to-hub associations?

That in-and-of-itself is not as easily reverted right? Once you discover problems with some device or collection of devices relative to a new hub reverting still becomes "a project" no?

Such as?
The main problems that have been posted about c-5 to C-8(pro) migration revolve around z-wave devices not migrating properly due to the inability to identify z-wave ghosts on the C-5. I personally migrated around 100 Zigbee devices from my C-5 and had to rejoin 1 Iris V2 motion sensor. I moved my z-wave devices 1 at a time from a different C-5 hub.

OK well your Zigbee experience (sans Iris) is comforting. Some of those MHCOZY relays would be my concern....but other than that, maybe some Community App or two that isn't supported by the author would be something to worry about.

Thanks for the dialogue. I guess the threads out there heralding: "My xyz has worked like a well oiled machine on my old C5 but now blah blah blah is happening" just reverberate even tho some of the causes may well have been fixed.

I just assigned the same ip address to the new hub to help mitigate any problems. The hub I migrated from had 2 Hue bridges connected to it via CoCoHue and all worked fine and still does over a year later.
