Hi community - I have not been here for a long time simply because everything is working just as expected ![]()
I would like to add a physical switch to my Konnected board that would trigger a Mode change on Hubitat. I am sure this is possible, I am just don’t know where to start. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.
This will get you started using rule machine. I'm sure other options are available as well. I used an actual switch but a virtual switch would also be a choice.
First, let's differentiate between a (momentary) button and a (stateful) switch or contact. Either way, you have plenty of options here, the simplest being Button Controller app. Push a button... things happen, as exemplified below:
If instead you really meant a Switch, then Basic Rules app or even Rule Machine (overqualified for such a simple task, but my tool of choice) could handle that trigger instead:
Great starting point, thank you. I am looking for an actual physical switch I could mount (wired) on the wall next to my entry way. This would be connected to my Konnected Pro board. Hit the switch, and the Mode changes to Disarmed. Hit the switch again and the Mode changes to Armed. Any thoughts on what type of switch to use?
Most any kind of button or smart switch that communicates an on/off pushed/released state change.
I'd encourage you to think outside the box (literally) by using a handheld remote for this purpose. This gives you max flexibility in placement and routines setup, without locking you into a physical connection with your alarm. That's the beauty of rules... they respond to so many prospective inputs, including Virtual Switches that you command, say, using a Voice Assistant.
I'm just reluactant to condone wiring a switch where one might not be essential or necessary. For me, button remotes (whether ZW or ZB) win the day.
Hi Xavier, I appreciate the input about isng ZW/B. My concern is that I live in an area where we have frequent network outages. The reason I am leaning towards a wired solution is so it will be fail-safe if the network is down. Make sense?
Thanks, Bill. Would you mind providing a link to one of the switches you are referring to? Thanks!
No.
What network outage are you referring to? Hubitat will continue to respond to input from battery-powered Z-Wave and zigbee buttons if internet access is lost.
And, if you believe that internet is needed for a Z-Wave or zigbee mesh to function, that restriction also applies to a wired Z-Wave or zigbee device. While the device may be powered using line power, it's communication is still wireless.
Z-Wave and zigbee are very different from powerline communication protocols like X-10.
Wait, I'm starting to wonder if the OP meant a physical switch (or contact) that is wired into the alarm system itself?
Sorry if I tl;dr'd...
Ahhh ..
Well any switch with two states (on/off) would work for that purpose. It simply needs to be connected to dry contact terminals on the Konnected board typically meant for a binary sensor.
With that said, this statement still stands:
Looks like old stock Almond, great price. Enbrighten Z-Wave In-Wall Smart Toggle Switch with QuickFit™ and Simpl – Jasco
Any DC toggle or rocker switch that does not have an led light would work. You are using the switch like dry contact.
Decora style momentary switch is an OPTION.
Yes - a physical toggle style switch that is hard-wired to my Konnected board that would trigger Hubitat to change modes.
I am looking at something as shown in the link below. Am I on the right track?
You can look for surface mount versions to save time on mounting. There are a lot of options. This old school one looks nice
That is perfect. Thanks - I think I will order and do some testing ![]()
Hi all, I purchased this switch from Amazon;

I want to use it to change mode from Armed to Disarmed. Am I on the right track?
Thanks!
as mentioned just get a handheld zigbee or zwave remote.. assuming you have a battery backup on your hub and wifi router/switches .. this will keep working even if external wifi/isp is down..
or as you are going you can hook this up to the konnected board but you will still need a bvattery backup on your wifi and switches and hubitat and konnected otherwise with a power outage it still wont work.
