That's a misleading first sentence on their part--they're discontinuing firmware updates for the v1 Bridge (or really: they're just confirming this after not having released one for 2+ years) and ending support for cloud services (e.g., Alexa, GH, My Hue). It will continue to work locally as-is indefinitely, as summarized in a previous thread on this subject:
Of note for those of us here, Hubitat users could regain this functionality by importing the Bridge lights and groups (and scenes if you use a third-party integration) into Hubitat and using the cloud integration there. 
(But I'd still probably upgrade to a v2 Bridge. Hue made it painless, unlike the v1 to v2 ST migration, and there are other benefits.)
