I've utilized four peq zigbee contact sensors on my former C-5 hub and (for a couple years) a C-8 hub. They've been nearly bullet-proof.
However, after the most recent firmware update on my C-8 hub (2.4.4.135), they're not updating status properly. I can't say for certain if the problem is associated with the platform update but the timing of their demise seems correlated with it. They've never given my any problems in 5+ years and now they're completely disfunctional (all 4).
I thought perhaps the batteries were getting too low so I replaced one and now that device won't connect properly to the hub. When I attempt to connect a zigbee device the hub sees it and correctly identifies it as previously connected. But the hub doesn't show any contact open/close events for it.
All other zigbee devices seem to be working normally.
Anyone else having issues with their PEQ (or centralite) Zigbee contacts or other similar devices recently?
I can't comment on root cause, but I have had Zigbee device that drop and then pairing mode will say they reconnected, but they really didn't. I've had to put the devices back in pairing mode (reset) and then the hub reconnects them and they work.
It is most likely doubtful that the platform version is the issue, if there was a significant issue w/zigbee contact sensors on a platform release we'd see a lot of posts here about it.
If you want to directly test the platform version, you can roll back to the previous version you were runnning before 2.4.4.135 and see if your issues w/the contact sensors persist.
Launch the Diagnostic Tool from Settings>Diagnostic Tool
OK -- I tried shutting down, pulling power, waiting a few minutes, and rebooting. Two of my problematic PEQ devices won't connect but now two of them are working. I reset one of the PEQ devices and it won't pair with the hub.
Tried downgrading the platform and no improvement.
I'm truly baffled. Another PEQ zigbee device is also not reporting. It's like they've all decided to lose their minds over the past few days after working nearly flawlessly for over 5 years. All other zigbee devices seem to be working as expected.
I've not made any manual changes to the wifi channels utilized by my HE nor router. Don't know if any of my neighbors changed their channels although it's likely they have at some point. I have a unifi router with some amazing network traffic and analysis tools but I (now) understand that it only logs channel usage history for 24 hours so I can't see if it automagically changed the 2.4 GHz channels a few days ago when all hell broke loose.
You probably already know this, but make sure that you’re only using 20MHz bandwidth on the 2.4 channel. It’s slower than 40, but you’re using the 5GHz for speed anyway, and your zigbee and bluetooth devices will thank you for not walking all over them.
Also, you could try going into settings and doing a network rebuild and see if that helps you rejoin your devices.
If you haven't done so go into your Unifi controller and turn off the automatic channel switching. Sorry I am not home so I can't look at what it is exactly called but it will make you life easier in the future. You won't have to worry about that being an issue.
Thanks again for the suggestions and help. I'm already using 20MHz channel width at 2.4GHz. Unifi has a new "AI/ML" channel tool which the user runs manually and then recommends changes. I hadn't run the tool for several months.
Every other zigbee device is working just fine just my PEQ/centralite controllers are problematic. There are some very cheap xfinity zigbee contact sensors recommended by several users here so I ordered 10 (for $40!) and will try them after they arrive.
