Peanut outlet firmware

Does updating the firmware on Peanut outlets make them work better?

I have 24 of them… they worked fine on ST for over 3 years. I do have some issues with my setup but I’m not sure that I have a problem with Peanuts… I've read what people say about them and I can't say that I have seen those issues in mine. I do see them change routes occasionally.

I wonder if it would be worth getting an Almond router to update them... just to make them more stable? I really don’t care about the power reporting features but will updating firmware make them function better overall?

No idea if updating the firmware makes them more stable. But if you want an Almond router, I have an Almond3 for sale ($15 + shipping).

That's good to know and thank you... I will keep that in mind

Hopefully I will get some guidance on whether I should try this or not. If power monitoring is all the update does, then there is no need for me. If it makes it work better than that would be great.

I think this is true.

I didn't do the update because of the notes only talked about power monitoring and I didn't want the chatty messages on my network.

Today I put a large box full of Peanut outlets on a high shelf in my equipment closet. I feel like I should seal them in with lead and maybe some Celtic runes to protect future generations of smart home owners. I thought about burning them, but that pesky ocd of mine just holds me back… and there was a time… long ago… that I loved them. They worked so well on that other monstrously unreliable hub, already up on that shelf. It’s all very sad.

I should have listened to all the people who said they were bad but I had to prove it to myself. In the end, after a relentless effort to make a whole pile of them work… I can say without a doubt.. they will absolutely trash your mesh.

Then why keep them at all? For things like that, I sell them or trash them... Keeping things I know I won't use just builds clutter. (disclaimer - I'm kind of an anti-clutter guy... lol)

They seem to be generally fine on some hubs (eg. SmartThings). I had 10 of these; I sold all of them along with an Almond3 router on eBay.

I still have 3 in use with no issues. I'm actually curious about getting a hub to update them for the power report.

It’s very much a luck of the draw issue with these. Some of them behave well; others don’t. The more you have, the greater the odds of coming across a bad one.
