Pairing the Kwikset 620

Running the latest version 2.4.0.151 on a C8 connected with Ethernet to the LAN.

I have a dozen Kwikset 620's. They are a total pain to pair with Hubitat. I don't know if it is a Hubitat issue or a Kwikset issue. So far I have only connected 3 of the locks. I am putting all the codes in manually in each lock. This is not what I really wanted to do.

Many times I have to attempt to pair the device 20 or more times before it pairs. Once in a while it will pair right away but will not complete the pairing process. Then I have to exclude the device and try again.

Currently I have a "pairing" lock set up about 3 feet from the C8 and that still isn't working.

I have restarted Hubitat and done a factory reset on the Kwikset 620. No love.

I can't find the Smart Start option in this version of the app. When I got devices and hit the + it takes me to the page that I used to seeing but no Smart Start option.

What am I missing?

I have 5 of these locks on a C-8 Pro, which has the same z-wave chip as the C-8. No issue connecting them. I used Smartstart on an iPhone to pair them. They all paired with "S2 Access Control", as anticipated.

If you get your locks paired, you can manage codes using a built-in app called "Lock Code Manager".

Can you post screenshots of your z-wave settings page in its entirety? It seems likely you have one or more z-wave ghosts.

Where would I find that? Settings just opens another list. No actual settings.

I also can't find the Smart Start page option.

I don't know why but I have 3 of these (more in the past) and proximity to the hub was always crucial otherwise I would get half paired locks and the ensuing ghosts.
Sometimes a full power reset would clear out the half paired lock and allow me to successfully pair again.
This was before the antennae mod when I had the built-in antennae.

To get to the ZW Details page, go to "Settings", then "Z-Wave Details".

Posting a screenshot of that whole page will help other users help determine if you have any ZW ghosts. Depending on how many ZW devices you have, it may take several screensots to capture a long page -- that's OK -- just post them one after the other here.

You can only access the SmartStart (SS) pairing option from the Hubitat app, you can't do it from the webpage. And that option will only be availble in the app when you're connected to your local network (i.e. wifi, not cellular).

Are you on Android or iOS? There's currently an issue where the SS option is not showing up in the app at all for net-new app installations.

  1. Open the app, make sure it indicates your connection is Local, and Click on Devices.
  2. Click on the + sign in the upper corner (right hand or left hand - depending on your OS and app version)
  3. Click on Add Smart Start Devices

Each of those items is a clickable link.

I found it. But is is not easy to get to. I would expect it to be easy to find and here is when I end up most of the time when I add units.

Ok. Been here before. I have lots of ghost units, many of them the locks I am trying to pair.

And once again, how do I get rid of them? I don't do this enough to remember how to make them go away. I know the process is difficult and time consuming instead of just deleting them.

That's just the regular website rendered to mobile (viewing) size.

As long as your phone's on your local network (connected to wifi), you don't need the app to get that page; you can just use your phone's browser to access your hub directly.

This is the most comprehensive guide for handling ghosts:

I am accessing the hub directly using the hub's assigned IP address on the phone app.

Right, going through the app is one way to do it. You can also access it via IP from your phone browser; both give same result. The only thing I ever use the app for is Smart Start and occaissionally checking dashboards when away from home.

I'm old, so otherwise trying to do actual hub work (build rules etc) is a complete no-go for me -- my tired old eyes need my laptop's bigger screen.

ETA -- I should clarify that my first 2 sentences above presume your phone is connected to your local network (wifi). I do not subscribe to the Remote Admin feature, so I can't speak to how (full) hub access works when you're on cellular.

I am old also.

I use remote to access my systems since I have three homes. I like to check on them from time to time and monitor things like temperature, security cameras and energy usage. I like to make sure that the water is turned off on the homes I am not at in case of a leak. I also monitor the temperature of the freezers and refrigerators to make sure that I don't end up with a warm box full of rotting food. Yes that happened to me once so I am kind of particular about that issue.

I keep hitting discover/repair on the ghost units and never get the remove button. This is such a pain and there has to be an easier way to get rid of ghost units.
