Paid walkthrough help wanted: Vera to Hubitat Z-Wave migration, stuck at switch exclusion/include

I am migrating from an old Vera hub to Hubitat Elevation and I need practical help getting unstuck. I am not a smart-home hobbyist.

The Hubitat was connected to our network, but we got stuck trying to exclude/include an old Z-Wave wall switch. Then the Vera was reconnected, and the project stalled. We have several smart switches in the house, some of which may be failing or may still be paired to Vera.

I am looking for someone experienced with Hubitat + Z-Wave + Vera migrations who can do a paid remote walkthrough with me. I can be physically present at the switches while someone guides me. I am willing to use Hubitat Remote Admin if that helps.

My immediate goal is not to migrate the whole house in one shot. I just want to:

  1. Get Hubitat confirmed online.

  2. Successfully migrate or replace one Z-Wave switch.

  3. Make a simple step-by-step plan for the remaining switches.

I would be grateful for recommendations, volunteers for paid help, or guidance on the best next step.

I encourage those interested in helping @rachel to contact them via a PM rather than in this thread.

I'm not sure you need that kind of help - Most everyone here has a Zwave device on Hubitat, and coming some Vera does not change anything specifically. I'm pretty sure if you just post the details of your issues in this thread and it can be resolved.

First thing - Did you exclude the Zwave device, either in Vera before removing it, or in Hubitat before adding it? You can usually just factory reset the Zwave switch and not worry about excluding, but you may want to exclude in Vera just so Vera is OK with losing the device.

Still, I would just factory reset the device before trying to pair to Hubitat, even if you do an exclude on the device in Vera.

I would reset the device and use the Add Device from the device page in Hubitat, and start Z-wave Inclusion when the device is blinking for a connection. I assume that is what you already tried doing, but you don't have specifics.

Though it almost sounds like you don't have the hub UI up, so maybe you have not tried Zwave include yet... Have you gone to "Find My Hub" and registered it yet? That is the first step. Find you Hub will give you the IP which you can type into the browser to bring up the UI.

This can be problematic with some older switches.
Even a factory reset may not perform an exclusion on the switch's radio.

If you can remove the cover and post a picture of the installed switch it may help to identify a proper exclusion procedure.
