Very true and doesn’t help they keep coming out with new hardware all the time!
But on topic I do love my G6 Entry on my front door. Serves as a doorbell in the UniFi Protect app and an entry device in UniFi Access. Comes with Apple TouchPasses so my watch and phone lock and unlock my front door via automation with HE.
Oh, and I've pretty much come to a limit as to what more I can/want to do. If I moved and had to start again, it might be a different story.
However, I have wanted, needed actually, to set up some NVR system to catch the damn dog owners who don't pick up after their fur babies. (I don't have a pet but I'm tired after many years, and me and all the responsible owners in the neighborhood are trying so hard to catch and publicly shame the bad apple.)
Apologies in mixing metaphors and phrases, but is this the fork in the road to grab the bull by the horns to go down this rabbithole?!?
This drives me insane, well at least more insane. I have a Lorex Fusion NVR. It does human, animal(4 legged), vehicle & package detection. I caught my neighbor down the street not picking up his dog crap, went right to his house and advised him of his violation of town ordinance. He immediately got a dog bag and was ready to pick it up,and then I heard a voice from beyond, "do unto others.." so I told him, don't worry about it - I'll take care of it this time. So now he knows I can ID him in a heartbeat. I doubt that'll ever happen again.
Talk about a rabbit hole! Every time I start to research NVRs, I spend way too much time, total price starts high and creeps higher, and I end up doing nothing.
All right, so I got a great deal on the keypad with a screen - used, like new. Looks like someone tried to connect a few wires. Everything else was still untouched in the box. I chose this because I know that I'm not going to remember jack on how to configure it in the future and also because the wiring diagram was SOOO simple compared to the other models.
Connected 12VDC power supply to the red (+) and black (-) wires. And connected blue and purple to a spare Ecolink DW-Wave2.5-ECO. Setup took just a few minutes. When unlocking, it engages the contact for a few seconds WHILE announcing that it's unlocking and locking again. RFID, PIN, and fingerprint.
There is a doorbell button, but I haven't yet determined which wires are contacted for that. Once I do, I can repurpose the current Ecolink that I use with the dumb switch. Ooooh, I can use that as the simple close garage button!
Downside: can't press a button just to close the garage like a usual GDO keypad. So, have to enter a code and the Rule activates the garage door.
I haven't installed it yet. After all of these years, I did realize that I don't have to wire around and through the door opening. I just have to drill through and pass the main wire through. There is a security screw on the bottom so it can't just be popped off the wall. In addition, I plan on looping/anchoring the wire in the garage so there would be no way to pull it off the wall even if the security screw is removed.
The Smart Life app allows you to configure users' PIN, RFID, and fingerprint. However, PIN has to be 6 digit. That ability negates the need for the screen, which was the reason I got this model! Still, it was cheaper than the other models, so I think it's a keeper.
The goal was to provide something of convenience for the kid. Plus I got 3 ways of unlocking. So, that's a bonus.
Also the Frient is nearly 100 euro, only one of those sellers ship globally (to the US), shipping is additional, and then we have those pesky taxes, I mean "tariffs".
I did find this .. 30.00
