Organizing Rules-don't be a dumb a** like me

I am posting this so that so that somebody else can avoid wasting multiple days.

Having rules in multiple places (Basic, Button, Legacy, Simple, etc) was making me crazy! So I sent the 2 days re-creating rules in RM (so of which I can't get to work).

Use the FILTER at the top of the page and don't be a dumb a** like me

Thanks for the tip, never even noticed that filter box at the top :frowning:

Wow, never noticed that either. That's kinda fun. All of my "rules" are in webCoRE, even the simplest ones, but this does show me other stuff related to the filter. Neat!

Also don't forget at the bottom of the device page every app/rule the device is part of is listed as well. That can cut down on the list to review as well.

That is how i look up automations most of the time.

Been using the filter/search box for ages, never thought of simply typing "Rule" in it to filter down to those automations, neat and tidy.

It doesn't give you Room Lighting which is functionally like Rule Machine by a different name.

Using the search returns results from all apps:

Yep, but I was replying to the OPs post using "rule" as a filter to filter all the "rules."

You can achieve the same for room lights by typing "room" in the search box. It works because apparently, in list mode, the filtering looks at both name and type columns.

If you change the view to grid mode, which I think is the default on mobile, this trick no longer works.

NOTE: I think this used to confuse some users that "lost" apps or drivers, but forgot they had something in that box; the new UI highlights the search box so it's less likely you'll forget.

I'm glad for the depth of that search filter. Cool to see it work in unexpected ways.

My rule and device naming "conventions" are onerous & ungainly out of a hope that as things grow bigger than expected tools like this filtering will make my life easier.
