I know that myQ has closed themselves off from easy third party control. What are all the options I have to get around this (if any)?
As far as I know, there are no workarounds to 3.0 (for Hubitat or anything else), yet anyway.
A fingerbot or other button pushing device.
Otherwise, Chamberlain has decided that it wants a completely closed system, where they can eventually paywall it like they tried to do previously.

Is Chamberlain the same as Liftmaster? I got a new Liftmaster garage door opener installed, which has prompted this thread.
I would love to know I'm incorrect in assuming my new opener is 3.0.
It has a white learn button, which I read is indicative of 3.0. Whereas 2.0 uses a yellow learn button and 1.0 is either red or purple.
Either something like that, or live with the MyQ app, as far as I know anyway. Maybe in a few years things will change, someone will find a workaround.
Be sure you get the Zigbee version of the button pusher if you want Hubitat compatibility.
Have you looked inside the wall pushbutton or remote? At the end of the day, no matter what other electronics are inside, there is a momentary contact physical switch where the pushing happens. Unless they've made it impossible to tap in there too. I note Garaget doesn't have an option for Security+ 3.0 (Garaget may have ceased to exist, although the webpage is still up).

I see it connects via Matter though, which I've never used with Hubitat. Would the THIRDREALITY device connect to a Matter capable device in my home (e.g. Nest Mini) and then the Matter capable device talks to Hubitat (or Home Assistant)?
That must be newer, I hadn't seen it before.
If it is Matter, it theoretically should work without too much fuss, although sometimes it may need a specific driver which doesn't exist (yet).
AI can sometimes whip up a driver if you ask it nicely, so I suspect that one way or another this might work.
Wifi Matter can connect direct to Hubitat. This device claims to be Matter Over Wi-Fi, so you shouldn't even have to use a 3rd party app, unless you want to. I typically join the device to the native app first (in this case Thirdreality) and let it do a firmware update. Then I remove it from that native app, and pair to Hubitat using the Hubitat app.

I was in this position recently - had to replace two garage door openers that were beyond repair. I ended up getting two used Liftmaster Security 2.0+ openers on eBay. One of them had a bad control board, which was easy to replace. They work very well with RatGDO32.
As @Ranchitat mentioned, I have one of these. I paired it with an Apple HomePod. At first I couldn't get it to pair via matter with my C8-Pro. But when I tried again a few days later, I got it to pair. It's been really solid ever since. A couple of times it has lost connection to Apple, and then by extension to Hubitat. All I've had to do is pull the plug for a minute and plug it back in and it reconnects. I have to tell Siri to "turn on the garage door opener," which seems a bit clumsy. But it works fine.
Why don't you keep it paired directly to Hubitat?
EDIT: Oh, I see. The docs explain that it's suggested to pair to another controller because Hubitat can't put Matter devices into pairing mode.
It would pair but only as a generic device that wouldn't operate correctly.
Yes they are the same but liftmaster got the new security first, still some Chamberlain with the yellow buttons. When I heard about the new protocol back in december, I right away went out and got 2 new Chamberlain direct drive openers on sale before the new ones come out even if I will only be installing them in a year or so because my new house has not been started yet. A friend of mine, who works in garage doors, told me that the liftmaster in Canada has been on security 3.0 for some time now, he started seing them back in september 2025 and when they got clients that absolutely wanted the 2.0, they would point them to go buy the Chamberlain version in store and would install it for them at a premium as they usually don't install end user bought units.

Sorry, that thread got long. Basically get a Zigbee or Z-wave relay and solder it to the buttons on a sacrificial remote. Put the relay in "momentary contact" mode. Works great and Chamberlain can pound sand trying to get my pay for a subscription.

I just got the THIRDREALITY Garage Door Opener today and when pairing it onto Hubitat (from another Matter fabric), it comes into Hubitat with no device type. I changed its device type to "Generic Matter Switch" and it seems to be working well.
But I'm still curious if you faced something similar and what you ended up setting your THIRDREALITY device as in Hubitat.
I don't recall the whole saga, to be honest. It was back in January. I just remember that it had a hard time paring with Hubitat directly and then operating correctly, but it paired OK first with HomeKit and then to Hubitat. I'm willing to admit that part of the problem might have been between the chair and the keyboard. It works fine the way it is so I'm not inclined to fix it.
The only thing I've noticed is that if I unplug the base unit and plug it back in (simulating a power outage), it takes a minute or so for it to reconnect, but it does so automatically on different fabrics (e.g. Home Assistant). But on Hubitat I have to press a button on the device page (e.g. on, off, or configure) for it to sorta sync back up. Maybe it'd do it automatically if I waited long enough though.
The only other downside as I'm having to use a generic driver in Hubitat is that it doesn't show battery information like I see on the Home Assistant side of things.
