Opinion on ZSE42 leak sensor

My first one just reported low battery - so about 4 months life.

Interesting! My 16 have been in service ~2 months now and are all still at 100%. I'll keep watching them, though!

A couple of my sensors chewed through the batteries and were reporting false positives.

I was told by Zooz support that updating to firmware 1.3 will fix the issues. I've updated and I'm keeping an eye on them.

Problem is that the OTA update process is pretty painful. It takes a while and even if it looks like the update was applied, when I go into the device details page I still see the old firmware version or no version at all. I can only get it updated after multiple attempts. Now imagine doing that for 20 leak sensors.

I did it on all 16 of mine, plus 4 contact sensors.

I didn't do my firmware updates on habitat though, but it still took a long time the way I did it. It is tedious.

This seems to be my experience for all my battery devices (granted they are all Zooz so possibly related, possibly not).

How has the battery life been going for you @jtp10181 and @JasonJoel? I think my bathroom sensor seems to last a very long time (might be 6+ months), but my kitchen one seems to be eating them a little faster at 45 days since the last swapping.

My one closer to the hub seems to last longer. I'm wondering if I have a faulty repeater node somewhere. Is there a way to check that? I checked the route table, but don't see the sensors at the moment. I've also have a pair of MCT-340e door sensors that also seem to eat batteries faster than the other two I have.

I should look into a firmware update, too.

Mine under the kitchen sink does not get a great signal to it, but it is still reporting 100% battery. My open/close sensor on the pantry which gets more action has been steadily dropping though recently, so the battery is on its way out on that one.

Which battery do you plan on using?

I've tried Duracell (from costco), and those were the worst. Panasonic batteries appear to be counterfeit from amazon. The last set I bought was from Ikea, and those appear better than the Duracell, but thinking they're not as good as the legit Panasonic ones from Digikey.

I really wish stuff would just take the CR123 batteries instead - those last multiple years for me.

I have some old spares sitting around from other things, going to burn up first. Last time I needed these CR2032 in bulk I just found a decent looking pack on Amazon and they seemed to work fine. Price for 2 is crazy if you try to buy them at a retail store. The TENERGY CR123's I got on Amazon seem to be working good in other devices, maybe they have the 2032 also.

My last order for 2032 from Amazon came with 2025s in the box. The packaging even said 2032, but the smaller ones were inside. Dumbest thing ever, but likely a mistake that a counterfeiter would do. I'll checkout Tenergy, and possibly Harbor Freight store-brand.

Sams Club sells a 12 pack of energizer for $13. I have used Harbor Freight and they don’t seem to last as long.
