Can't figure out what I did wrong. Only want it to turn on the notifications at night, but it is doing it all the time. How do I make it so that the alert is only activated at certain times?
Side note, when do I get to upload pics? This is very hard without screenshots.
You should be able to add in IF statement before the action. (ie, IF Mode=Night THEN Send Notification).
You could also use the Notifications app, which has restrictions for mode and between two times.
I was just looking at it again and discovered "Conditional Action" which looks like it will do what I want. I have to wait for the time to not be between those times to confirm. Next on my list is learn how to use modes. Still very new to HE.
Yeah, it can be a bit of a learning curve. It took me a while to figure out how to use conditional actions well, but they are at the core of what makes Rule Machine powerful.
As far as modes. It's pretty simple, just use the Mode Manager app to set when the modes will activate. I just set mine based on sunrise/sunset and time of day, but other options exist.
This is useful because both Rule Machine and most of the other apps allow you to set actions by mode. So, for example, my kitchen lights come on with motion, but differently depending on what the mode is.
Here is my Mode Manager settings, like I said, very simple.
One other tip is that you don't need to use Rule Machine at all for a lot of things. I use it fairly often for complicated or customized things that none of the apps can handle. But a good portion of my automations (especially lighting) are done with those two apps I mentioned and others like 'Simple Automation Rules', 'Basic Rules', and 'Button Controllers'.
