Older Leviton devices instant status failure with new 2.5.1 firmware

Ok.. neither of those even has Firmware Update capability unfortunately..

There are 2 posts here about that:

The first one is the biggest: ZWave-JS Update 15.25.3

The second one was a minor update in 2.5.1.143: ZWave-JS 15.26.0

At this point.. I really need to have a device in hand.. But you know these 300 series devices are slowing down your mesh? Especially mains powered repeating devices..

Very aware, but I can't see that it's been causing problems - and they have been nice devices. I have been thinking hard about what to replace them with in various places, but it also feels wrong to discard working devices without good cause (which this might be!)

positive attributes

  • VRI06 works in no-neutral situations
  • VRMX1 supports MLV applications (I use one place, new Leviton ZW6HD-1RW can replace)
  • Real/nice matching remote switches which have separate on/off and dimmer bars with level indicators. Newer leviton gear also has this.

Big lack is no double-tap and such like (still the case for current leviton gear). I'd probably swap with zooz if the matching remote was more functional. Inovelli replaces most of this, at a price.

Anyway, enough self-justifying my not replacing these yet!

I have spare devices taken out of service which I'd be happy to send you with no commitment or need to return - totally up to you. I wouldn't expect you to work on this for me specifically, only if you thought it had any merit for the greater good.

I have the same series of Leviton Switches (VRS) and they have the same experience as @gta lists above.

I have spares of these Switches if needed for diagnostics, happy to ship one. Unfortunately I don't have spares of the Dimmer series (VRI06, VRI10, VRMX etc), but I can order both off eBay and have them shipped to you if that'll help.

lmk.

Only marginally. The VR Series Leviton devices ("Leviton Vizia RF+") run at 40kbs. My [C8-pro, 2.5.1.142, 15.25.3 JW-JS] Z-Wave network has 56 nodes, and 33 are these Leviton VR Series switches/dimmers/fan-controllers, and the response times are fine (only one has dropped back to 9.6kbs)

The older RZ Series Leviton devices, run at the slower 9.6kbs, so they'll have a much larger impact on a large mesh.. I doubt many of those are left in the wild, as they had other issues...

I do have spares of VRI06 and VRMX1 freely available...

And, oh yes, the yet older ones which ran at 9.6kbps - I had a few of these too and retired them ages ago - quite a few issues, as you said! I assume they must have been based on an older chipset than 300-series, though IIRC I couldn't find docs.

I do also notice that vast majority of devices on my C-8 Pro have only a single hop rather than passing through a repeater, further limiting the slow device penalty.

@bcopeland Let us know if you want a physical unit shipped to you. Both @gta and I have them (either Dimmers, or Switches, depending upon what you need)
