Odd issue using physical switch with Sengled Element Color Plus

This may not be anything at all really, but as I am getting deep into setting up all my devices and automations now I figured I’d ask about some oddness noticed with these awesome bulbs.

I have replaced all the bulbs in one bedroom with the Sengled Element Color Plus bulbs. No issue detecting them or working. Only things modified so far are the color temp (3300) and transition time (500ms).

First thing noticed is that sometimes when turning them on through the UI, they start at a different color temp (maybe 2700) for a split second, maybe less.

Second thing is that since this is all new, the wife hasn’t gotten used to not flicking the physical light switch sometimes. She reported that sometimes randomly the bulbs will start on with a blue tint then change to the set color, I verified this is true.

Has anyone experienced this with these bulbs?
Is there something I should be setting or not setting in the devices options?

I figure once I have Simple Lighting and Rule Machine rules set up neither of the oddities will be an issue. But I searched for issues or using these bulbs and there isn’t much on the forums because they do work really nicely.

Thanks in advance.

When you first power on the bulbs they will come on to their default. They have to establish communication with the hub to know what they are supposed to be set at. You might want to replace the physical switch with a blank plate. That way you can't accidentally switch it.

I thought that might be the case, but it really is random when using the physical switch. Sometimes it goes right to 3300k, sometimes it flashes a deep blue first.

The white only Sengleds I have don’t seem to come on at a default temperature color when set at 3300k (default is 2700k).

I would prefer dumb bulbs and smart switches in this bedroom, but I was told she wanted the color bulbs to “set the mood”.

Right now I can’t go full bore and get rid of the switches at the moment, but maybe in a month when I’m “allowed” to buy some or the Lutron stuff.

I think some tape will have to do to keep the switch fun untrained hands.

Or you could replace the switch with a Pico once you get your Lutron stuff. That way the "switch" is still there and better yet, it works!

Yes, the options are many for sure.

Might recess the switches into the wall and put Picos over them for rooms with smart bulbs.

Still curious if anyone else with the Sengled color bulbs has experienced this.

Well, you're doing something you're not supposed to do with Smart bulbs. They are supposed to have power 24/7. So, until they boot up, i don't think you can predict their behavior.

I fully understand they are supposed to have power all the time and it could be a byproduct of the physical switch being used randomly when the wife forgets to talk to Alexa or I don’t have a motion or time based rule set yet.

But there has to be time to transition to full blown Home Automation. We don’t mind the effect at present as automations don’t do this.

My question was as to if anyone saw this with this specific bulb. Might just be these bulbs as the Sengled white bulbs always go right to the preset temperature color using the physical switch or not.

I just ran a quick test using A19 Sengled Element Color Plus bulbs. I typically use these at 2700K (soft white.) I tried turning them off and back on at 2700, 3300, 5500, and Green. In all cases, my bulbs returned to the exact same settings they had prior to the power off event. One thing I did not try was leaving them off for an extended period of time.

Thanks! Without spending too much time on these, I have noticed that time between off and on is random with the initial blue flash.

I’d rather spend the time getting automations and everything else down. But, maybe someone else has or will notice it and they see the thread and know not to worry too much.
