first im new. im probably breaking all kinds of community rules. but i will learn them as i go.
this is my first post. and my first day with Hubitat. I factory reset all my hue motion sensors and hue bridge. I installed the Hue bridge integration. when I connect the motion sensor to the bridge I don't see any of them in Hubitat or HomeKit. I do see the strip lights i have in hubitat and in HomeKit when i enable the HomeKit integration.
on the flip side. if i remove all the sensors from the hue bridge i see all of them in Hubitat and HomeKit but then i don't see any light strips. i have found that i need at least 1 sensor in hue bridge to see the lights. I can write rules in hubitat around the sensors that are in hubitat but the 1 sensor that is connected to the hue bridge i cant see it to write rules.
but then that leaves 1 sensor out of hubitat and HomeKit.
The built-in hue integration only includes bulbs, it does not include accessories (or scenes). To get events from these you need to use either Coco-Hue or the Advanced Hue integrations from the Community.
Otherwise, you can also pair the accessories directly to your HE hub
I use CoCoHue instead of the built in integration. In addition to being able to import Hue groups and scenes into Hubitat, it enables “push” updates of Hue lights and accessories, whereas the built in integration only supports polling the bridge for updates and therefore is not updated in real time. I also have my Hue bridges linked to Apple Home directly and only use the Homekit app for devices that are directly connected to Hubitat’s z radios, or virtual devices.
Edit: I also have all of my Hue motion sensors paired to Hubitat instead of the Hue bridge, but most of my Hue dimmers and Aurora rotary dimmers are on the Hue bridge.
i had to figure out how to add the package manager then i installed the advanced hue integrations. seems to do everything i need.
one question. i have 1 sensor attached to the hue bridge and the rest are attached to the hubitat. do they all need to be attached to the hue bridge for them to work in a mesh? does having some in the hue bridge and some in the hubitat bridge create 2 separate mesh environments
This isn't necessarily bad; I have Hue devices on my Hue Bridge network and a large Zigbee network of other devices on Hubitat. As long as you have enough repeaters if or where you need them (any mains-powered device on either platform, generally speaking) and try to avoid Zigbee channel overlap and Wi-Fi, etc. interference to whatever extent possible (both Hue and Hubitat try to make reasonable choices when you first set them up, so this normally isn't something you have to worry about), it can work. Many of us here have multiple such networks without problem.
I also have devices on both a Hue bridge and paired directly to Hubitat. The Hue devices I have paired to HE don't technically need to be, it was more out of laziness that I did not transfer them back to Hue . As you expand your setup you will likely acquire other brands or types of devices, which you will want to pair to HE, for that reason as well you will require two mesh networks. I have a selection of Samsung contact sensors and buttons paired to my HE hub.
Also, for some older (I believe it is mostly older) Hue bulbs, it can be beneficial to have them on their own mesh network separate to HE's, due to some differences in how they communicate. This may not be relevant for the newer Zigbee 3.0 bulbs....
